Sometimes, as the saying goes, the opposition comes riding
to your rescue. For the serially tenacious Tim Ireland of Bloggerheads fame, it came galloping yesterday as the assembled
idiocy of the Guido Fawkes blog performed
a collective and unprompted foot in mouth exercise in pursuit of their
favourite back bench MP (yes, it’s her
again) Nadine Dorries.
I'm pals with Nads, cos I'm on telly!
The rabble at the Fawkes blog, or to be more precise the
odious flannelled fool Henry Cole, tame gofer to the perpetually thirsty Paul
Staines, has for some time now jumped on any statement from Ireland, no matter
how obviously hypothetical its nature, as evidence of some kind of tendency
towards intending harm to the fragrant Nadine. And along the way she has been happy
to encourage him.
A Twitter discussion along the lines of “what would happen if X said they were going
to do Y” was instantly inflated by Cole into deliberate intent. The clear hypothetical
context was admitted and instantly dismissed. The Police were invoked in
support, which may have been news to them. A further assertion that a rape threat
had been made against Louise Mensch (it hadn’t) was trowelled on.
And note that all this Twitter traffic you see reproduced
here was retweeted by Dorries, underscoring the encouragement she gives to
Cole. Moreover, the level of honesty is, as usual with the flannelled fool, not
unadjacent to zero, as he claims “I don’t
have a Wikipedia page”. Really? Let’s have a rummage, shall we?
Oh look, a Wikipedia page about Master Cole. Screen grabbed this morning. But, guided
by the light from his burning trousers, young Henry is clearly undeterred, as
yesterday’s events demonstrated. First, the Fawkes blog gets a quote from
Dorries saying unequivocally at the launch of the Conservative Voice campaign “We
need a kill Cameron strategy, not a voice”.
Behold, a headline of Cole's own making
And then came the spin: as Cole belatedly realised his foot
was lodged firmly in his north and south, the post was hurriedly updated to say
it was only a “metaphorical” kill.
See, it’s only a bit of harmless fun! Where’s your sense of humour? But, just to
make sure, there was a, shall we say, clarifying post on the Fawkes blog later,
accompanied
as ever by a suitably flattering photo of Cole’s pal Dorries.
Save your excuses for Young Dave, Nadine
That the Conservative Voice group has
now dissociated itself from Dorries does not seem to have given the
flannelled fool a sufficiently large hint that what she said was at best
thoroughly unfortunate and at worst worthy of apology on pain of deselection.
Not only does this affair show the rank hypocrisy and venal dishonesty of Henry
Cole, it also underscores the perhaps too close relationship he has with
Dorries.
And the inevitable consequence will be that the next time
Cole tries to smear Tim Ireland, others will be forewarned and won’t believe
him. Another fine mess.
