Guido Fawked – Still Dependent On The MSM

The launch of the Super Soaraway Sunday Steamer and upcoming London Mayoral election have generated great excitement for the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines and his tame gofer, the flannelled fool Henry Cole, at the Guido Fawkes blog. The less than dynamic duo have secured themselves a regular column at the rival Daily Star Sunday, and have also majored in kicking Ken Livingstone.

Why isn't our story on the front page?

Sadly for the Laurel and Hardy of the blogosphere, both events have served not to show their strength, but rather a continuing weakness. The Star column, while giving them an audience outside the Westminster village, is lame by comparison with the Fawkes blog – which means it’s very lame indeed – mainly because anything of questionable veracity, like most of it, has been stripped out.

Moreover, despite the latest effort having been live on the Star website since yesterday, thus far nobody has been sufficiently interested to post a comment (that’s as at 1030 hours). And the lack of attention has extended to the Fawkes’ blog attack on Livingstone, with that same MSM not acting on the continued exhortations to upbraid the Labour challenger over his tax arrangements.

And it’s here that Staines and Cole let slip that they are Tory cheerleading tribalists: no probing of the saintly Bozza for them. The Fawkes blog has no problem with the current and occasional Mayor spraying £11 million up the wall on his vanity bus project, nor any issue with blowing several more millions on a vanity cable car, nor all the talk of an obscenely expensive vanity airport.

This may be because travelling on mere public transport is something that is, for much of the time, beneath the less than dynamic duo: Cole’s approval of the BozzaMaster was based on having seen in at a distance while comfortably ensconced in the back of a taxi, er, sorry, cab. And unquestioning loyalty means the Fawkes blog will not be asking any questions of Bozza on tax.

That is most remiss of these two seekers after truth, given that Bozza categorises £250,000 as “chicken feed”, and gets just £140,000 as Mayor. If £250k is so trivial, what’s the main deal? But no, all readers of the Fawkes blog get is unequivocal – or maybe that should be unvarnished – praise of Bozza’s nine point plan to aspire to do whatever Lynton Crosby has decreed he should.

By itself, the Fawkes blog cannot set the agenda. It needed the MSM, or the imminent threat of it, to skewer Damian McBride. It failed to get William ‘Ague, it failed to achieve a “Portillo moment” with “Auguste” Balls, and someone else got Chris Huhne, despite claims to the contrary. The best that the Laurel and Hardy of the blogosphere can hope for is that Dirty Des pays them in money.

And that the circulation of the Sunday Star holds up. Another fine mess, once again.
