Farage - Paranoid In Rotherham

Another day, another occasion where the campaigning of Nigel “Thirsty” Farage and his fellow saloon bar propper-uppers at UKIP developed not necessarily to their advantage: Mr Thirsty had travelled hopefully to the South Yorkshire town of Rotherham, ostensibly just to cut a ribbon and declare a new office open, but in reality to shamelessly milk the town’s recent and grim record on child sexual exploitation.
Squeaky not so popular finger up the bum time

Sadly for Farage and his entourage, the news of his arrival preceded him, with the result that, almost as soon as he had fetched up at the local Kipper HQ, a peaceful but noisy protest was in progress. Rather than accept that all those ghastly proles whose votes he’s trying to garner were entitled to assemble and pass forthright and adverse comment on his presence, Farage panicked and summoned the rozzers.

Meanwhile, Rotherham’s Labour MP Sarah Champion had observed “Hilarious Farage is trapped inside the Rotherham UKIP shop by people objecting to him coming to rubber neck at victims!” Those baffled by Ms Champion’s later decision to delete the Tweet may not have looked at all the Kipper-supporting abuse it had generated, most of it totally ignorant of her work to improve child protection.
Yes, it was fine for UKIP supporters to abuse the town’s MP, but a group of peaceful protesters outside UKIP HQ was something entirely different. After Farage had been advised to cut short his visit by South Yorkshire Police, who then provided a car to take him safely from the scene, he went on LBC to dump an industrial-scale tirade of abuse on them for their trouble. Maybe someone was out to get him - or not.

After asserting that the Police werewilfully obstructive as far as we were concerned”, he then ranted “Let me promise you, in South Yorkshire, when it comes to UKIP, the police aren't interested … It took us a huge amount of time to get any uniformed help of any kind at all. Frankly I think the whole thing is disgraceful … It’s as if [the Police] view UKIP as the enemy and perhaps they're right to”. And there was more.

It was also the police force that did nothing to prevent and stop one of the worst social scandals of our lifetimes. Here we are as a political party, daring to challenge this and daring to say something must be done. Perhaps that's got something to do with it”. Perhaps it had more to do with them having better things to do than put themselves at the beck and call of a shit-stirring spiv from out of town.

Farage will have garnered even less sympathy by smearing the Unite union, calling Hope Not Hate “anti-democratic and incredibly un-British”, having a party spokesman call the protesters “hardline Socialist Workers” (was that Raheem “call me Ray” Kassam? His pals at the Guido Fawkes blog, coincidentally, took theSWP” line), and failing to meet with anyone involved in child protection - like Sarah Champion.

Real politicians know protests come with the territory. Nigel Farage is not one of them.

He should have had the courage of his convictions and stood up to the protesters if he felt so strongly about it. However, that would have weakened his "victim" credentials.
Instead, he preferred to sit in the warm being interviewed by Andrew Neil on the Daily Politics which, I have to say, was not a great success.

I'm in the middle of reading the report, but as far as I've got it reads like a report from the witch finder general. I think that the secretary of state should have to put his case before a judge before he can remove a democratically elected body.

Not the first time Farage has run away with his tail between his legs when greeted with anything other than messianic adoration. His visit to Scotland was similarly cut short... I dare say even Nick "Invertebrate" Clegg has more gumption than Farage...

Problem with this writer is that his attitude to stop people speaking out in Rotherham is part of the reason why 1400 children and counting were abused!...Hate to say it, that attitude is open now for all to see!

Nobody was stopped from speaking out in Rotherham. Projection and victimhood may sound good with the Kippers but have no relationship with the facts.

Comment moderation does, however, enable me to savour the outpourings from idiots who want to put their foot in it before showing that tendency to the wider world.
