UKIP Foot In Mouth

[Update at end of post]

As if UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom could not be more clumsy, he outdoes himself: the bloke who asserted that women were better at finding the mustard in the pantry – not many houses nowadays have one of those, Godders – has now intervened in a Twitter conversation he would have done well to keep out of.
Channel 4’s Faisal Islam Tweeted that he was on his way to attend a speech by the Rt Hon Gideon George Oliver Osborne, heir to the seventeenth Baronet, declaring that the UK economy has “turned the corner”, despite the size of that economy being 3% smaller than its peak in 2007.
Bloom jumped in to upbraid Islam: “Perhaps you will let him answer a question, unlike your one-sided rant at me”. But Bloom’s inquisitor when he appeared on Channel 4 News recently was not Faisal Islam, but Krishnan Guru-Murthy, one of the programme’s main presenters.

Islam gently pointed this out to Bloom, who sheepishly conceded “Yes sir, I was, very sorry”. Easily enough done, I suppose – after all, these Channel 4 chappies all look alike, don’t they?

Nigel Farage is reported to have been temporarily rendered speechless.

[UPDATE 1630 hours: Godfrey Bloom's minor slip has now made the Independent, thus ensuing the MEP who talked of "Bongo Bongo Land", and that women were better at finding that mustard in the pantry than driving cars, is going to reach a wider audience.

So that's something else to drive his wife mad, along with leaving the toilet seat up, wet towels on the bed and the top off the toothpaste, then. Not for nothing will the Bloom Twitter feed be receiving a lot more attention in the coming days. He's got no room for complaints]
