When it comes to the machinations of (still) nominally Labour MP Simon Danczuk and his self-promoting ex-wife Karen, there is one media outlet that has unfailingly called it wrong, and that is the one inhabited by the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines and his rabble at the Guido Fawkes blog. This may be not unconnected to them taking their information from Danczuk and Kazza, while not realising this may not be A Very Good Thing.
So it is with today’s post on Spanker Si’s less than totally fragrant former partner, where the headline claims “Karen Danczuk Wants To Be Labour MP For Heywood And Middleton”, and the text tells “Guido hears Karen is looking at Manchester’s Heywood and Middleton, a Labour seat currently occupied by the uninspiring Liz McInnes, who is currently battling the Momentum hordes in her CLP”. And there was more.
“Karen said last year ‘I really want to fight Middleton & Heywood at the next General Election for MP!! It’s time they had a home girl putting the town first’ … Which would throw up the prospect of Heywood and its neighbouring Rochdale constituency being held by a former husband and wife”. Do go on. “There are of course other seats without sitting Labour MPs, nearby Rossendale and Darwen is held by Jake Berry”.
Of course Rossendale and Darwen doesn’t have a sitting Labour MP, it’s held by the Tories (nothing gets past The Great Guido). But I have bad news all round for the Fawkes rabble: not only is this not new news, as they themselves have hinted, it is also Fake News. So let’s take this nice and slowly, for the benefit of those Fawkes slow learners.
Kazza picked a Twitter fight with Heywood and Middleton’s sitting Labour MP Liz McInnes last May. She was roundly ridiculed at the time, not least because Ms McInnes, whatever the Fawkes rabble claim, is a competent and well-liked incumbent. Another reason that Spanker Si’s ex will not be getting the nod from Labour - or indeed any credible political party - is that she was a useless Councillor who had to be persuaded not to stand again.
And, as for the idea of “the prospect of Heywood and its neighbouring Rochdale constituency being held by a former husband and wife”, this is bullshit, and for two good reasons. One, Simon Danczuk, as has been revealed recently, is now facing the very real prospect of expulsion from the Labour Party, for his “sexting” a 17-year-old girl, along with a whole catalogue of other, shall we say, unfortunate incidents.
More importantly, two, The Great Guido has managed to miss the boundary changes set to be introduced soon, which will mean some constituencies will disappear. One of the disappearing constituencies will be, er, Heywood and Middleton. So Kazza would be left standing for a constituency that won’t be there in 2020.
That’s what happens, Fawkes folks, when you get your “information” from the Danczuks and can’t be arsed indulging in the mystical art of “five minutes’ Googling”. As I first told The Great Guido back in 2011, No research, no result.
The Fawkes blog fouls up once more. Another fine mess, once again.
