Yes, the EDL has, it seems, been with us for almost forty years, as this short film from 1972, extolling the cultural side of the organisation, shows. It’s good to see that the EDL has maintained such a high standard of awareness and clarity of thought for so long.
And it gives an idea of why the other 10,000 were missing.

EDL – Where It All Began
To commemorate the rally of the English Defence League (EDL) yesterday in Luton, where an attendance of around 12,000 was predicted, but less than a sixth of that number turned up, Zelo Street has been trawling the archives to show its readers the early days of this organisation.
