While pundits and hacks wait for the Alternative Vote (AV) referendum result later today, and last night’s local election results – plus those from Assembly and devolved Government polls in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – are digested, it may have escaped notice that one big name has returned.
The Lib Dems lost six seats on Cannock Chase District Council – that’s the area north of Walsall – their most high profile loss being leader Neil Stanley. Those losses were all to Labour, which is now the largest group on the Council. The name of the victorious Labour candidate, who defeated Stanley?
That would be Gordon Brown. Apparently he and Pa Broon are not related, although they are both Scots. Clearly you can’t keep a good name down.
