After Gisela Stuart appeared before the host’s inquisition on The Andy Marr Show™ yesterday to excuse Vote Leave’s lawbreaking in the run-up to the 2016 EU referendum, the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines and his rabble at the Guido Fawkes blog were quick to fire up the spin machine, telling readers “Gisela Stuart Reminds Remain That They Spent Far More Money”. Maybe they were a little too quick.
Fawkes teaboy Tom Harwood ...
That is because The Great Guido has good cause to be nervous right now: his new teaboy, the flap-mouthed but clueless Tom Harwood, was intimately involved with the lawbreaking, and is a leading candidate for having his collar felt by the Met’s finest.
... who may be visiting here soon
Why that should be is straightforward: Shahmir Sanni, who blew the whistle on VL’s less than totally legal conduct, is now once more blowing the whistle, this time on Harwood. He has already made a series of allegations against the Fawkes teaboy which, as yet, remain unanswered. So let’s see what he has claimed.
Early October last year: “You were Head of Media for BeLeave and Head of the official Vote Leave student wing. Vote Leave claimed to have never coordinated with BeLeave yet you were actively working on both campaigns”. Also, “Tom only got away because it was Darren’s [Grimes] name on the official submission to the Electoral Commission, they can’t fine individuals. However, the police can”. There was, later on, rather more.
Later in October: “By the way, you were on the board of BeLeave. Which has been found guilty of breaking electoral law...you knew about the scheme yet never said anything … You were both Head of Students for Britain, the Vote Leave student [wing] and Head of Media for BeLeave, which Vote Leave (and you) have claimed were entirely separate”.
And just to finish off, “Here is proof that you were there from the start. I have snapshots of your conversations both on Slack with Zack, on WhatsApp with Cleo + Stephen, and with Darren. You were also in the Facebook group for BeLeave contributors. And visiting regularly to the VL offices”. Sanni’s evidence has been passed to the Police.
After Ms Stuart’s excuse me appearance on the Marr Show, Sanni returned to the subject. “What part of Vote Leave started deleting data a week after the Electoral Commission launched their second investigation do people not get? These are intelligent people making clever decisions to cover up their criminality”. And on Harwood?
“Tom Harwood @tomhfh was instrumental at BeLeave and Vote Leave and knew about the entire scheme and is most likely to be a key person in the Met Police’s investigation”. The Fawkes blog might be best advised to have a reserve teaboy on standby in case the current incumbent has to spend more time with the cops. And his lawyers.
The Great Guido loves to tell his readers about all those he has targeted being quizzed by the Rozzers. One suspects, though, that the Fawkes blog will come over all reticent in the event that it finds the boot is firmly on the other foot. Another fine mess, once again.
