Brexit Deal - Enter A Spinning Patsy

The success of any trade deal is usually in inverse proportion to the amount of lame spin applied in selling it. That should be borne in mind when considering the supposed eleventh-hour “breakthrough” in negotiations between the UK and EU over a free trade agreement, and the momentary euphoria in which our free and fearless press has indulged this morning. Because this is not a win. It is a humiliating climbdown.

Enter an obscenely overpaid stenographer

What is being sold as a personal triumph for alleged Prime Minister Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is nothing of the sort. But the new received wisdom has to be established before anyone has had a chance to read a few of the maybe 2,000 pages of text and draw the obvious conclusion: the EU held firm, and Bozo caved in, desperate for a deal.

After seeing what could be a regular future occurrence unfold in the last week - thousands of lorries stranded and parked up across Kent, their drivers on the verge of rioting, looming food shortages, financial markets turning against the UK, more businesses ready to leave for good - the UK side knew the game was up. The press is pretending otherwise.

And nowhere is that shameless and pointless turd-polishing more evident than in the claims made by the odious flannelled fool Master Harry Cole, continuing his pretence to be a real journalist as he claims to be political editor of the Murdoch Sun. Applying more spin than a Shane Warne flipper, the front page headline tells “Brexit Deal Close … THE NIGHT BEFORE BREXMAS … Boris poised on trade pact … EU agrees to zero tariffs”.

Master Cole’s Twitter proclamations are yet more effusive. “DEAL! Britain on brink of inking historic zero tariff, zero quota trade deal with Brussels - ending years of bitter Brexit war … Personal triumph for a PM that won vowing to ‘get Brexit done’ … UK will finally cut ties with EU red tape and meddlesome judges as promised in 2016”. It was a war! Honestly!

There was more. “Record breaking accord poised to be signed in less than a year of talks and will allow free trade to continue without tariffs of quotas in a major win for Britain … Many said it was impossible ... and No10 rejected MASSIVE pressure to drag out for another year because of Covid”. It was always possible, providing we caved in. Next.

Barnier was side-lined [no he wasn’t] in the end as predicted by many and I understand PM and VDL actually held FOUR calls yesterday, haggling on the numbers and the detail … Car industry row was going late tonight but still expecting to see PM before too long”. And so Master Cole entered the joint realms of dishonesty and fantasy.

The reality, and the point of Cole conveying his crock of weapons grade horseshit, was summed up by Peter Foster of the FT: “The sell is on”. Jon Stone of the Independent had the real-world context: “a basic free trade agreement of the kind Boris Johnson seems to have secured will reduce UK GDP by 5.2% over 15 years compared to staying in the EU, according to the government’s Office of Budget Responsibility estimate from March 2020”.

He added “What if the UK uses its departure from the customs union to sign free trade agreements with other counties? The government’s own estimate is that the biggest of these potential deals, with the US, will give just a 0.16% boost to GDP over the next 15 years … What about trade deals with Australia and New Zealand? The government estimates their effect will be around 0.00%”. A 5% hit on GDP, then.

Worse, there will be no more influence at the EU’s decision making table. And Sam Lowe was beginning to compile a list of mildly inconvenient questions: “If there is a deal, here’s some things I’m interested in: - rules of origin provisions - whether there’s anything on mutual recognition of conformity assessment/professional qualifications - provisions on temporary movement of services providers - any phasing”.

That list will only grow as time goes on - and the fine print of the deal is discovered. That is why Master Cole is spinning like a top this morning, and he is not alone: the urge to look over there has spread across the national press like a wildfire in a dry eucalyptus forest.

In the real world, the UK will be poorer, have less influence, and be a less attractive proposition to investors. All that Bozo has achieved is to finally cave in on signing a deal which was on the table several months ago. Master Cole lying about Michel Barnier being sidelined just screams satisficing dishonesty, a crowd pleaser for Tory back benchers.

As Ian Dunt put it on reading Cole’s claims, “Imagine how shameful it must be to take a career as a journalist and end up as a PR agent for the prime minister”.

All this proves is that a bad deal is better than no deal. Yes, Bozo lied about that one, too.

Gibraltar Moves Closer To The EU

Their vote in the 2016 EU referendum could not have been much more decisive: the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar voted Remain by a margin of 96% to 4%. But they were going to be taken out of the EU anyway. Now, Gibraltar is about to go its own way: to the horror of Brexit boosters everywhere, it is looking to join the Schengen area.

That’s the common travel area including most EU member states, as well as Switzerland, Iceland and Norway, which the UK refused to join while a member state. As the El País English Edition Twitter feed has told, “British nationals traveling to Gibraltar from the UK will have to go through passport control, while Spaniards will be able to enter freely, if a new deal is cinched. The agreement would also give Gibraltarians open access to Spain and the Schengen Area”. And who would be checking those passports?

The supporting article may cause Brexiteers to spontaneously combust. “Gibraltar would not have a land border for people going into its territory, but it would have reinforced airport border controls … the offer on the table is de facto access to the Schengen area while seaport and airport access in Gibraltar would be controlled by Frontex officers reporting to Spanish authorities”. Frontex is the European Border and Coastguard Agency.

There is more. “All sides agree on guaranteeing the free movement of people across the Spanish-Gibraltarian border, in exchange for making Gibraltar’s airport and seaport the new EU external border … This means that people landing in [Gibraltar] … could later move freely across the Schengen Area without going through passport control … From Gibraltar airport, it would also be possible to fly to the 26 members of Schengen”.

On passport checks, “Spain has accepted that, for a transitional period at least, it will not be Spanish police officers but Frontex agents. The presence of Spanish police in Gibraltar was a red line for Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, and Spain has temporarily given up on this ‘visibility’ in order to facilitate a deal”. And the result of all that?

Gibraltar would move closer to the EU while the UK separates itself from the bloc. What effect a period of Schengen area membership would have on any future vote on the status of Gibraltar is hard to predict. But a United Kingdom with all the border controls and customs formalities that come with it might not appeal to Gibraltarians so much.

So, having seen that news, the obvious corollary is to ask what all those fearless Brexit boosters are saying about it. I mean, what about SOVEREIGNTY? People with BLUE PASSPORTS arriving in Gib to be challenged by UNELECTED EUROCRATS? What have Brexit Party Oberscheissenführer Nigel “Thirsty” Farage and his chief Gauleiter Richard Tice had to say about it? Er, nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nix. Nada. Not a sausage. Bugger all.

You can add to that the silence of Andrew Bridgen. And Steve Baker. And Peter Bone. And Bernard Jenkin. And Bill Cash. And Andrea Leadsom. And Iain Duncan Cough. Even worse, disgraced former Defence Secretary Liam Fox saw Fabian Picardo the other day and managed not to notice that talks on joining Schengen were at an advanced stage.

While clueless Brexiteers queue up to play “Blame the French”, Gibraltar is slowly slipping away to set its own course for the future. Now that’s what I call taking back control.

Dan, Dan The Peerage Hypocrisy Man

As if there had not been enough questionable peerages handed out by alleged Prime Minister Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson this year, this week brought news of yet more, including another prize specimen following in the footsteps of “Lord” John Mann - having previously dissed the House of Lords, only to accept the offer of ermine and a £300 daily expense allowance for the benefit of Himself Personally Now.

What am I bid for this used anti-Lords principle?

So who was to be ennobled this time? Well, there was the mildly controversial figure of Tory donor Peter Cruddas, sent to the Lords with Bozo ignoring a recommendation to the contrary, but the real hypocrite was occasional Tory and former MEP Daniel Hannan. Yes, one of the most flagrantly dishonest politicians ever to set foot in a TV studio (and I include Farage, Duncan Cough and Gove in that category) was to become a Lord.

Paul Johnson swiftly identified the hypocrisy. “'David Cameron is doing what Asquith threatened to do in 1910: de-legitimising the House of Lords by flooding it with inconsequential nobodies’ - Daniel Hannan 2015 via [Conservative Home] - Daniel Hannan today accepted a place in the House of Lords”. Ian Fraser was on the same page.

Quite a volte face for Daniel Hannan? 2016: ‘...the right to grow up in an independent country where we can hire and fire our own lawmakers.’ 2020: Accepts peerage in the unelected [House of Lords]”. We could “hire and fire” MEPs. We don’t get a say about hiring peers. And we most certainly can’t fire them once appointed.

As to what kind of individual this concerns, Jonathan Lis had bad news. “I knew m’lord Hannan in Brussels. He is every bit as obnoxious and zealous as you’d fear and wrong about everything. On his most devout obsession, hating the EU, he has neither knowledge nor consistency. The great evangelist of Brexit is the greatest intellectual fraud of our age”.

OUCH! Tom Runnacles had more. “He was in the same year as me at Oxford. A zealot even then, he was thrown out of the Randolph Hotel because he made a scene about the EU flag outside”. Another Tweeter added “Yes, I witnessed this gentleman’s unpleasant behaviour at the upmarket ‘Made in Louise’ hotel in Brussels. Ranting at staff over how long his taxi was taking. Very emotional and angry man”. There was more.

After Jon Worth noted Hannan’s propensity to serial dishonesty, Steve Peers agreed. “The thing about Hannan is not just the high level falsehoods but the additional pointless day to day falsehoods, such as those about walks or restaurants. The Trumpiest man in Britain”. Zelo Street picked up on the minutiae of Dan’s photo whoppers HERE.

Then there was his dishonesty over the Covid-19 pandemic. LBC host James O’Brien noted “Daniel ‘Coronavirus isn’t going to kill you’ Hannan’s peerage has been announced on the day that the UK’s death toll reached 68,307. Seems to sum things up perfectly”.

As to the company Hannan might enjoy when he is duly ennobled, Peter Jukes reminded us “Hannan, master of the 'only 2000 will die of Coronavirus' and endless other fact-free baseless assertions about Brexit, gets suitably rewarded, joining Clare Spiked Fox and Evgeny Kompromat Lebedev in the House of Lords”. Quite the rogues’ gallery.

Is our politics corrupt and broken? You might wish to ask that. I couldn’t possibly comment.

Dan Hodges Grooming Gang Guff BUSTED

As Zelo Street noted last weekend, the Home Office report Group-Based Child Sexual Exploitation concluded that “Based on the literature it is not possible to draw any conclusions as to whether some ethnicities have a greater involvement in group-based offending compared with others … it is likely that no one community or culture is uniquely predisposed to offending”. Most offenders were white.

He's desperate, Dan

This has clearly displeased those out there on the right, and in and around our free and fearless press, some of whose attempts at pushback I included in Saturday’s post. But then came an intervention from the Mail on Sunday’s not even slightly celebrated blues artiste Whinging Dan Hodges, a worthy successor to Peter McKay as The World’s Worst Columnist. Desperate Dan says the Scary Muslims™ are the ones wot done it.

Hodges’ screed is a masterpiece in circular logic: the Home Office report, readers are told, “was supposed to put the official spotlight on to one of the greatest scandals in British history - the systemic abuse of white working-class girls by Asian men”. They Done It, so the evidence was going to be produced to show that, er, They Done It.

Here’s a little sleight of hand: “The sole definitive conclusion … was that 'research has found that group-based CSE [child sexual exploitation] offenders are most commonly white’ … The study had actually found no such thing. As Priti Patel pointedly acknowledged in her foreword: 'Some studies have indicated an over-representation of Asian and black offenders’”. Some studies that did not include that by the Home Office.

So Hodges is flat-out lying there. And the circular logic continues: “another appalling abdication of responsibility by officials and a system that has again failed the countless victims of Britain's Asian grooming gangs”. The Scary Muslims™ done it. Again. There is more.

An official” told Hodges “They were right, there wasn't any hard data. But that was because people didn't want to record it or look for it because they knew exactly what they would find”. Nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean Squire? And, don’t forget, “there has still not been any official national recognition of the horrors inflicted by Asian grooming gangs”. Remember, the Scary Muslims™ done it. It gets worse.

A cover-up is alleged. Civil servants are blamed. There is talk of betrayal. But this is woefully thin gruel, even for Hodges. And he was duly called out for it. His flailing and sneering response was telling. “Home Office officials aren't ‘experts’. Ministers aren't ‘experts’. The people who represent those who were abused aren't ‘experts’. Those who were actually abused aren't ‘experts’. Just you and your mates. You are the only ‘experts’ that matter” was one snipe at Jonathan Portes from Kings College London (thread HERE).

Later cameNever bought the ‘sick of experts’ narrative. But when you spend half an hour being told by academics you should speak to ‘experts’ on child-grooming - themselves and their friends - rather than the actual victims and their representatives it's quite hard not to give it credence”. Except he wasn’t told that. Deflection and dishonesty.

And after one Tweeter tried to point him in the right direction came this sneering dismissal: “Here we go. From a ‘Senior Lecturer in Art History & Director of US Studies’. Literally ignore the victims of child-grooming, and instead listen to the ‘experts’. What is wrong with these people”. As so often with Desperate Dan, the question marks ain’t making it. And if we’re talking qualifications … Hodges is standing in a very draughty glasshouse.

Also, that is not what he has been told. Moreover, apart from his Government source, he appears to have talked to one representative (singular) of victims - what status that person holds is not told - and one (singular) actual victim, the latter giving a quote which does not say that the Scary Muslims™ done it. His defence is as woeful as his article.

The impression is given that Dan Hodges took dictation from someone within Government who wanted the Scary Muslims™ to be blamed, as well as dumping on the Civil Service. The use of circular logic, the assumption of guilt at the outset, is all too predictable for papers like the MoS, but does the actual victims of abuse no favours at all.

And that’s the truly unforgivable part. Not that Dan Hodges will care. He’s done his bosses’ bidding, secured his six-figure wedge, and, well, he should care.

Thus the reality of a shameless floor-crosser. I’ll just leave that one there.

Julia Hartley Dooda Peak Brass Neck

Since the 2016 referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU, we have seen some spectacular exhibitions of gaslighting, dishonesty, deviousness, abuse, projection, deflection and lack of self-awareness from the jolly, and less jolly, Brexiteers. But the latest outburst from self-promoting TalkRADIO host Julia Hartley Brewer has swept those away, to become the unchallenged champion of snobby, sneering, elitist brass neck.

As befits someone of her crass insensitivity, Ms Hartley Dooda began last Saturday morning as she meant to carry on, Tweeting an image of aircraft on the apron of London’s Gatwick Airport at 0930 hours with the comment “No sweeter sight on a cold and dreary December morning in a country gone stark staring mad”. She was, as is her wont in the winter months, about to fly long haul, very expensively and exclusively.

Flight BA2157, perchance?

Later in the day came another opportunity to rub the proles’ noses in the nearest turd, with a photo taken from an aircraft clearly having the flaps down for landing, and the knowledge that London and the South East had just been locked down. “Well, looks like I escaped just in time”. The approach may have been that to V C Bird International Airport. That’s on the Caribbean island of Antigua. Just for those cooped up in their flats back home.

Her iPhone's still on UK time

Would Madam care to proffer an excuse me featuring a staggering lack of self-awareness and a trowelling on of rank dishonesty? As if you need to ask. “If you're a lockdown fanatic who's demanded more & more restrictions on our freedoms, then you'd be a hypocrite to jet off abroad for Xmas. I didn't. I've campaigned for us ALL to get our freedom back - including the right to travel & enjoy Xmas as we want. So, y'know, DO ONE”.

Where does one begin? The idea that Ms Hartley Dooda has campaigned to get anyone their freedom back is a nailed-on pack of lies. If by that she means Brexit, perhaps she can explain how removing the right to live, work and own property in 27 other countries is an increase in freedom. Or increasing the time taken in passport queues at airports. Or requiring visas to visit EU member states. Or invalidating UK driving licences once there.

Maybe she could take time out to explain to all those young people whose access to the Erasmus programme has been so suddenly and cruelly curtailed. And those holiday home owners who can no longer spend more than 90 days at a time there, because dishonest politicians and their cheerleaders told them Brexit would change nothing - so they didn’t apply for residency in that country. Tell them about their increased freedom.

And then we come to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the course of which Ms Hartley Dooda has been pushing every last denialist wacko going, giving a platform to those who cast doubt on the science, on lockdown, on testing, and even how lethal the virus can be. She has denied a platform to those who say those she champions are wrong.

The result of this? More people not following lockdown and other restrictions. More people becoming infected. More people falling ill. More people dying. More people with long-term health issues after recovering. And, ultimately, more and harsher lockdowns. Try telling all those people about how much more freedom they’ve got. If they’re still alive.

Julia Hartley Dooda and reality never did get on. Now she wants a medal for helping screw up the UK while swanning around in Antigua. She can take that one and shove it.

Guido Shops His Source

It has long been the contention at this blog that those in the service of the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines at the Guido Fawkes blog would not be able to identify journalism if it leapt up in front of them and fly-hacked them in the undercarriage. And, as so often in such cases, it is the opposition that has come riding to my rescue this week.

Feared. But only by rickety furniture

That opposition was The Great Guido himself - whether their latest own goal was scored by replacement teaboy Tom Harwood or apprentice sandwich monitor Christian Calgie is immaterial - rushing to publish another alleged “Exclusive”, only to end up covered in rather more than confusion. The subject was Parliamentary leaks.

Under the headingLeaked: Chief Whip Writes To PPS’s [sic] Warning Them Not To Leak”, readers were told “Lots of Tory PPSs are fuming at this letter from Mark Spencer which they think is insulting. Basically the Chief is reminding them that they are on the lowest rung and are expected to shut up and do as they are told. They were also reminded not to leak”. Spencer’s letter was then reproduced in full. But here a problem entered.

Spencer was concerned about leaks. What might that have meant? What would the intelligent response been? What would Nietzsche have done? Sadly, the Fawkes rabble is not of that calibre, and just went for the clicks. What happened next?

Simples. Northampton South MP Andrew Lewer, a PPS at the Home Office, was sacked from his role serving Policing minister Kit Malthouse. The Guardian told “it is understood that the letter, from the chief whip, Mark Spencer, was worded slightly differently for each recipient so officials would be able to tell which version had reached the media”.

And his explanation? “Lewer, PPS to the policing minister Kit Malthouse, denied he had leaked the letter when confronted by Conservative whips, but suggested it could have come from a member of his staff … He told the Politico website: ‘In nearly 20 years of elected office I have never leaked to the press.’” A big boy did it and ran away.

Should The Great Guido have been forewarned? “It is not clear which parts of the letter were varied in order to catch the leaker, but the entire text was published as part of the Guido Fawkes story … Ministers could not claim not to have been warned of the possibility of such a method being used to identify possible leakers. Last month, No 10 briefed that it could use a ‘canary trap’ strategy in an attempt to identify the source of leaks”.

The Guardian added “That ploy was viewed by some Westminster observers as unlikely to succeed given it had been announced to the press”. So the Fawkes brains trust had been told what tactics would be use to catch leakers, but they still published Spencer’s letter in full, no redaction, no cuts. And their stupidity got a PPS sacked.

Not since Vicky Pryce worked with mercenary hack Isabel Oakeshott has there been such a grievous misplacing of trust in political hackery. But the latest Fawkes own goal will have one beneficial effect: far fewer people will leak information - to them.

I said the Fawkes massive did not deal in real journalism. They have now, most helpfully, proved me right, but not even acknowledged their guilt. Another fine mess, once more.

Grooming Gang Report BURIES Bigots

It was hailed as the pinnacle of investigative journalism, worthy of any and every prize: the story from Andrew Norfolk, that a “grooming gang” operating in the South Yorkshire town of Rotherham had been allowed to carry on its abuse of young girls as the Police were supposedly afraid of being called out as racist. It was the spark that lit the “Muslim grooming gang” bonfire, a dream come true for the far right.

Andrew Norfolk

From that beginning came the received narrative, which held, more or less, that “grooming gangs” were a predominantly Muslim failing, a weakness attributable to men of Pakistani heritage. This legitimised the attack line claiming criticism of Muslims could not be racist, as Islam was not a race. It also legitimised the decades-old far-right characterisation of all Asian men and women as Pakistanis, or even simply “Pakis”. It made bigotry respectable.

But then Norfolk overreached himself, most notably with the “Muslim Fostering” story, which was initially single-sourced, the claims made, despite the Times being backed up by equally hostile coverage in the Sun and Daily Mail, falling apart under the least scrutiny.

Still, there was a Government investigation going on, courtesy of the Home Office. This, surely, would provide the “overwhelming evidence” of what the Murdoch press called “a deeply rooted pattern of criminal behaviour with a clear ethnic component”. It appears that investigators went looking for evidence to back up this claim. But they did not find it.

The report, “Group-Based Child Sexual Exploitation”, released this week, has concluded simply “Based on the literature it is not possible to draw any conclusions as to whether some ethnicities have a greater involvement in group-based offending compared with others”. That comes after two years poring over available data. And there is more.

Research on offender ethnicity is limited, and tends to rely on poor quality data … It is therefore difficult to draw conclusions about differences in ethnicity of offenders, but it is likely that no one community or culture is uniquely predisposed to offending”. Just like the so-called Trojan Horse “plot” to take over schools in Birmingham (that last being the invention of Andrew “transcription error” Gilligan), Norfolk was ultimately bust.

The problem was that, in the period after Norfolk’s first revelations, a narrative has been allowed to take hold, aided and abetted by bad faith actors like Quilliam, which made a series of claims that, ultimately, even they could not sustain, and from which they unsuccessfully attempted to climb down. So where is our free and fearless press today?

As if you need to ask: they mostly aren’t. The Mail has tried to suggest it was still the Scary Muslims™ wot done it. At the increasingly alt-right Spectator, Patrick “lunchtime” O’Flynn says it’s all about a struggle between Priti Patel and her civil servants, and the latter are at fault for not coming up with the evidence to prove the pre-ordained conclusion. The Guardian and Independent have a straight news take; other outlets haven’t bothered.

Brian Cathcart and Paddy French, whose investigation into Andrew Norfolk’s work caused the Murdoch press such discomfort, have covered the release of the Home Office report, and have asked The Great Man to respond. The result sums up the whole sorry saga.

Andrew Norfolk was approached for comment but did not respond”. No surprise there.

Julie Burchill HUMILIATES Her Supporters

They leapt to her defence like so many lemmings: someone they knew had suffered a setback because they were against Woke, and the enemies of Woke were their friends, their allies in the fight against this great evil of our times. But as Woke means “alert to injustices in society, especially racism”, and their hero was abusive has-been Julie Burchill, theirs was a campaign destined to develop not necessarily to their advantage.

Ms Burchill had left Twitter - but voluntarily, at the behest of her then publisher - and then that publisher had decided not to proceed with her latest book. Almost before one could say “Spiked”, the righteous and sneering presence of Brendan O’Neill was on the case: “the reaction to Burchill’s cutting tweets is unquestionably mad. First she was hounded off Twitter”. She left of her own volition. And now she’s back. Bren lies again.

But do go on. “If anyone ever again tries to say cancel culture doesn’t exist, remind them of this: a book on cancel culture was cancelled because the author made fun of Islam”. This is also a flat-out lie. Try again. “That it can happen to one of Britain’s best and best-known journalists … “. Then she’ll have no problem getting another book deal, will she?

Unless Ms Burchill isn’t one of Britain’s “best journalists”, of course. Still, on moaned O’Neill: “the ominous nature of the cult of cancellation and the way it seeks to destroy anyone who dares to question woke orthodoxies or take the piss out of a certain religion”. He still has a problem with being “alert to injustices in society, especially racism”.

While Bren’s pants were still burning fiercely, another useful idiot entered the fray. The loathsome Toby Young had, back in the day, fallen out big time with Ms Burchill over the closure of the Modern Review. But now all was healed, and Tobe’s so-called Free Speech Union was on her case, though the purpose of the intervention was unclear.

The cancellation of Julie Burchill’s book because of a Twitter spat she got into with [Ash Sarkar] is a new low. She is a member is the [Free Speech Union] and we will be taking up her case. Appeasement is like feeding a crocodile in the hope he will eat you last”. How will they try and force the publisher to reconsider its decision? What can they do for her?

After all, she hadn’t been banned by Twitter, and just to underscore the point, back she came, like Janet Webb at the end of a Morecambe and Wise Show (ask an older relative). “I'm back, my beauties!” she trilled, having previously described her publisher, in a Facebook post since deleted, as “a bunch of bed-wetting no-marks”.

Then, just to show what Spiked and the FSU were prepared to defend, she Retweeted one particular specimen who talked of “The wokelibtards”. The mask never takes long to slip: resorting to a derivation of “retard” in order to smear opponents. Opponents who, don’t forget, are merely “alert to injustices in society, especially racism”.

Because that’s what this is all about: sneering dismissal of anti-racism in the name of FREEZE PEACH. That’s why the right-leaning part of our free and fearless press is so enamoured of Brendan O’Neill and Toby Young. It gives intellectual cover to their bigotry.

Ms Burchill, meanwhile, just pisses on them for shits and giggles. No change there, then.
