Today, on the fourth anniversary of the London bombings, there is at last a focus for remembrance and reflection. I described some time ago a visit to the Bosque Del Recuerdo in Madrid’s Retiro Park, which remembers those who died in the bombings in and around the city’s Atocha station. Now a focus has been provided for remembering those who died in early July 2005.
The memorial to be officially unveiled today is described in the BBC’s report, which also tells that the leaders of all three major political parties will be there. They will not, however, be making speeches. This is as it should be, and reflects the opening ceremony of the memorial in Madrid.
