Morgan McSweeney Pisses Down His Leg

So the Labour Party Conference is once more upon us, but not, for those running the party, at the moment they would have chosen: not much more than a year after being returned to power, poll ratings remain stubbornly low, and stubbornly behind Reform UK and its self-appointed Oberscheissenführer Nigel “Thirsty” Farage, with internal dissent never far from the surface.

And it is the manner in which potential and actual dissent is being addressed that shows us just how shameless, clueless, and detached from reality those who run the Labour machine have become. They think they’re still the bees’ knees, while all too many of their potential supporters have stopped listening.

At this point, a message from the distant past arrives. Lyndon Johnson’s observation “Did y’ever think ... that making a speech on ee-conomics is a lot like pissing down your leg? It seems hot to you, but it never does to anyone else” should be ringing out long and loud in the ears of Morgan McSweeney and his cabal. What they’re doing seems hot to them, but not to anyone outside their magic circle. Rather, it does no more than invite ridicule.

The Labour whip has been restored to John McDonnell and Apsana Begum, fourteen months after it was removed because they declined to back the two-child benefit cap. No, it doesn’t show a new generosity of spirit. But it does remind the world how authoritarian and intolerant Keir Starmer and his coterie of hangers-on became, and so soon after the election. Another fail.

Not even the blessed Tone was so intolerant of dissent. But the Blair years did produce policy proposals that went down like the proverbial cup of cold sick, one of which was ID cards. That’s the same ID cards that became so unpopular by the early 1950s that they were binned. Blair’s attempt, in 2006, to exhume them failed. But that has not dissuaded the McSweeney cabal.

Because now, it’s going to be DIGITAL. As the BBC report tells, “It is a way of proving your identity, and your right to work in the UK, using modern smartphone technology”. It is also, whisper it quietly, a way of getting every opposition party, from the Tories to Lib Dems, Greens, Independents and even Reform UK, lined up in forthright opposition. It’s another fail.

What it will not do is to “stop the boats”, the slogan by which Farage and his pals live their political lives. Far more useful, and better for everyone concerned, would have been to establish safe routes for refugees, and giving them the ability to claim asylum either in their own countries, or elsewhere outside the UK. Boats stopped, Farage deflated. So why not?

Because, sad to say, there seems to be a desire to fight Mr Thirsty on the latter’s chosen patch. WRONG. And when it comes to the kind of dissent that could derail the Starmer and McSweeney project, it gets worse. This has been superbly illustrated by their response to concerns that Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham may challenge for the Labour leadership.

So how has Labour’s ruling cabal addressed the potential challenge? What would a sensible, confident and collegiate leadership have done? What would Nietzsche have done? Sadly, this cabal does not operate on that intellectual plane, and the leadership has sunk to sending photoshopped images of Burnham as Liz Truss into the Internet. That’s a seriously bad fail.

Burnham has significant ministerial experience. His tenure as Mayor of Greater Manchester has included ending bus deregulation across the county, together with price capping to make travel more affordable. Adding local rail services to the “Bee Network” is the next step. Positive change. What has the McSweeney cabal done? Slagged off and undermined its opponents.

And coming over the horizon is Paul Holden’s book “The Fraud: Keir Starmer, Morgan McSweeney and the Crisis of British Democracy”. Which McSweeney and his pals will doubtless slag off and brief against. Because it seems hot to them, whatever those in the world outside New New Labour might think.

Worse still, Labour membership is in serious decline. Many may never return. Not while those who worked to throw the 2019 election are in power. Hint.

Labour? They can shove their membership up their corrupt arse. Sideways.

That's the same far right arse occupied by Badenoch, Davey and Farage.

Exactly this 'establish safe routes for refugees'. Or rather, re open the safe routes cynically closed by the Tories. As you say, no more boats, no more alleged 'illegals', Farage and the far rights teeth drawn. Yes, they'll still shout obscenities outside hotels housing Asylum seekers, but the boats are 'the' far right rallying point.

But no. Mcmoron and his empty suit Starmer, rachel 'I hate the poor' reeves and the rest of the clusterfuck that are the 'chosen ones' in Nu Labour will carry on trying to do what the Tories tried, and failed to do - capitalize on the misfortune of refugees and asylum seekers.

When you say that out load, you realise just how rank this govt is. It also makes you wonder if the conspiracy nuts are right, and this car crash is all a deliberate attempt to make Labour forever unelectable...

I'm sure Bertie will be adamant all is well in the Labour camp.

I can't say I've enjoyed living in your head for the last 5 years, me old scribbler; not much going on in there and far too much empty space. However, rent-free is never a bad deal, and being able to observe you at close quarters grappling with your Undiagnosed Obtuseness Disorder has given me an insight into epic point missing that I couldn't otherwise have found anywhere outside of a formal support group.
For which thanks. And good to see you back.

There are any number of reasons why this Digital ID Card thing is utter bobbins, the foremost being that it’s a government IT project. And thus will, by time-honoured tradition, be a Several of years late, a Several of times over budget and only having half the functionality of that proposed in the original specification.

Anyone believing otherwise is invited to view this fine collection of bridges my associates are selling.

Anonymous said...

Apparently not. If you go over to Ian Dunts blog, there are many naysayers telling all who will listen that govt IT is now on time, well costed and fit for purpose. So, nothing to worry about eh?

Well, apart from the fact that all non fictional or utopian analysis shows that indeed, yes, govt IT is consistently over budget, underwhelming and too often written off as a failure.

The main causes identified? Lack of joined up thinking, and lack of proper oversight. So, nothing to worry about there then!

No time for negativity, Mr L.
I am fully confident that Fujitsu are putting the finishing touches to Horizon 2.0(ID) as we speak and we'll soon all be able to flash our QR code at any authority figure who demands it safe in the knowledge that if, through a minor glitch in the system, we find ourselves suddenly whisked off to the Bell Hotel, Epping or an Abu Ghraib Travelodge, a Bafta-winning docudrama will have completely exonerated us all before we can say 'Happy New Year 2055!'.

Nice fishing try, Mark. But you only caught an irrelevant wriggly tiddler.🙂

It's nice to feel the love, in particular from a shop mannequin masquerading as Prime Minister. Apparently, it's not govt bungling, coupled with pathetic policies trying to beat the Tories and Reform at their own game that's dragging the country down, no it's the left!

Corbyn must love living rent free in mcmoron and his stooge the toolmakers son, heads..

Sorry, Mr L. Omitted to sign the above (or to add juvenile emoji to my tiddly wriggling snide anonymity).

Why not try actually reading some of Berties recent posts? Unlike our boring buddy on the far left with his endless, pre written diatribes, Bertie has shifted from his, even then, best of a bad bunch, approach with Labour.

Falling into the same trap as our local Ehrenburg, endless posts dribbling on about facists, far right, quiff quislings and the rest merely serve to prove those that despair of the left correct.

Bertie, unlike our foaming friend offers solutions, sensible critique, and will, when the evidence arrives change position. He doesn't need me to defend him, but I'd rather we all tried to comment on the issues raised than baiting each other. At the moment, the govt, along with it's right wing backers, is trying to shut down debate, protest, and opposition. United we stand, at the moment, just as progressives are everywhere, divided, we're falling.

Meanwhile, Quisling "Labour", supported by self-styled "centrists", continue to supply arms and logistics aid to mass murdering genocidal Israeli Nazis and Zionists.

The Quiff Quisling Starmer said he is "A Zionist without qualification". Which speaks for itself. That is supplementary to his financial attacks on our pensioners and poorest vulnerable citizens, literally grovelling at the feet of the Orange Yank fascist, lying to attain party leadership, cowardice in aid of the rich and their corporations and media, accepting bribes, and generally following the corrupt path trod by mass murdering war criminals Blair/Brown.

Quisling "Labour" and Starmer deserve each other. So do their gutless paranoid apologists. Pathetic wretches the lot of them, the same type who surrendered to the German Nazis when it was still possible to prevent their rise. Thus, Britain 2025. And falling fast.

Well, me ol' Micawber2, it's like this: worms can turn but they usually turn back to their original shape. It's how they get around. In their nature, see.

For examples, see the current UK government.

Vermeology in action.

Only here to help.

Burlington Bertie from Bow said...

Thanks, Anonymous, but, as evidenced is his predictably ChatGPT- meets Wolfie Smith-meets- Yaxley-Lennon's-SWP -brother-separated-at-birth effort below, you're banging your head against a brick shithouse.

A position as crude and basic as his is is always going to be attractive to people like him because of its very simplicity. Because it is, by its very nature, unassailable. . It allows no argument, no nuance, no compromise, no subtlety. It's the new-found absolutism of the disillusioned Catholic. Or the Islamist nutjob. As always, and as the man once put it, 'the worst are full of passionate intensity'.

(And aside from all that, of course, he's patently a knob.)

Mark Hayhurst said...

Bertie, we know it's you. Please don't be shy and stay anonymous.

Otherwise, he might have changed his views but there were no solutions then and no solutions mow.

You can't give someone stick because they were right about Starmer first time whilst Bertie was 2 years too late. We have to be smarter than that.

Anonymous said...

'Only here to help'. If only...

How has the current govt 'turned back' on anything? They were unashamedly right wing before the election, the public finally started to see 'just' how right wing during the election campaign (hence their poll lead slumped) and are now so right wing Nige is becoming upset at such upstart behaviour.

Not because they pose any threat to him, Mcmoron has seen to that, but because being in a three way battle of the hard and far right bloviators, means he has to actually do a small amount of work to keep his massive poll lead...

Anonymous said...

It isn't. Bertie and I have disagreed in years past on Labour (in opposition) as an alternative, however, I don't accept that 'nothing has changed'.

Who needs to be smarter than what? With our friend ploughing the same old furrow, one that succeeds only in putting off potential supporters of the anti conservative position, it's the far left that need a wake up call.
Still banging on in the same old archaic way, with long forgotten, often cringe inducing, terminology, draws in precisely zero support.

I agree totally, we do need to be smarter, and the far left arriving in the 21st century would really help. Hammering on from the sidelines rather than joining a progressive movement that embraces all, is an accusation often levelled at the left. I don't accept that's true of the left as a collective, but now, more than at any time since WW2, its hopelessly divided, and snarling at each, as I repeat, is only helping the right.

In all its guises.

Burlington Bertie from Bow said...

'Smarter than that', Mark? You're hardly the man, Mr Obtuseness. I was too kind to point out after your last effort that my living rent-free in your head has nothing whatever to do with your living arrangements and *my* head, though it's always interesting to hear about some distant troll's property portfolio, so thank you for that.

As for your ranting chum, if you shout endlessly that everyone in the world is a useless turncoat bastard*, then occasionally you'll be right. It's the old stopped-clock thing ( on past form, you won't understand that, so look it up).
* Except Keir Hardie, Clement Attlee and St Jeremy of Brexit-Absence, of course.

Well, me ol' Micawber1, intensified red tory bloviating isn't helping your support of fascist mass murdering war criminals, liars and hypocrites in Quisling "Labour". The Essex barrow boys aren't doing too well in the opinion polls either.

Though mass murderer Blair might "do well" as a hired estate agent in Gaza for the Orange Yank.

Btw, have a word with your alter ego Micawber2. He/she is having a woeful struggle with reality. Just like you, actually.

McSweeney?.......Pfffft. A mere jobsworth fart in a bottle.

Always look for the money. In the Quisling "Labour" case it's the far right Yank billionaire Larry Ellison (and others). Naturally the bribe was accepted by the wretched war criminal Blair. Subsequently the Stürmer gobshites inherited the mentality to betray the NHS.

Do you ever bother to read before spewing forth? I said 'turned back' not failed to deliver. Ie, they haven't changed their right wing stance, not, as all political partys these days do, gone back on what are increasingly vague manifesto promises.

As for 'keeping up' that's top comedy from someone stuck in the pre war World of 'comrades' and 'brothers'.

Anonymous said...

The reality is this 'me old' blowhard - the left is in a mess. Just as it was in the 1930's, when it was needed most (across Europe not just the UK), its divided hopelessly, with the far left trotting (literally) out one cliche after another, while the more sensible elements have no rallying point with Labour now firmly established as a conservative party.

Thus the right are completely running the show with no coherent opposition, and, right on cue, the mainstream left, publicly falling out before even getting going. A big slow hand clap there.

Dismissing people as mcawber this, quisling that, may give you a thrill but leaves everyone else yawning. Its repetition renders it meaningless.

Yes, we all know Labour is right wing. Yes, we all know they are up to no good on a regular (daily?) basis, but lets have some sensible alternatives, and ways of dealing with the rights domination of the narrative rather than more gibberish.

Or is that too much to ask?

The problem with Bertie, and even his redemption arc, is that he called people stupid when he was wrong, and he keeps calling them stupid when he changed to the opinion they were right about all along.

He isn't going to be an ally, he is going to muddy the alliance that exists to temper the right wing. There is no retrospective, just obnoxious condemnation.

You can have them in your club, sure, but you absolutely do not get to give them any credit.

Anonymous said...

Everyone else is those who don't vote for Left wing party's because of people like you. People more interested in bloviating to their fellow woolly jumpered, 'comrades' than doing anything.

As for the next election, thanks to the all talk and no do merchants like you, we'll be lumbered with fagman and boy blunder. Which, of course, will give you a massive thrill as the endless, pointless diatribe, will switch from ranting about quisling to 'how right you were'.

Yet, as ever, changing, and doing nothing.

It must be great being the far lefts answer to the Daily Mail. Just move a few words around and it's the same dreary headlines day in, day out.
