Incest And The Media Class

Last night’s edition of BBC Question Time brought several moments that should worry alleged Prime Minister Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson and his coterie of ineptitude, and should worry our media class rather more. The audience told host Fiona Bruce what she appeared not to want to hear, and what Bozo would rather not be allowed to be aired.

One audience member asserted that the “anti-foreigner Brexit” had come back to bite us. Ms Bruce declared that she wished to hear from a Brexit voter. The same audience member confirmed that he was a Brexit voter. Another concluded that there was no plan for Brexit, and no economic basis for leaving the EU. A supermarket worker confirmed that the shelves were emptying and denounced Bozo’s “theatrical bombast”.

And to top it off, a teacher told the panelwe don’t want to hear jokes, we want some action … start acting, stop joking”. The public mood is becoming hostile. Yet our media class carries on taking dictation from its Tory sources, and continues to talk very much to itself. The Tory conference demonstrated why that should be.

For starters, that same media class parties with the Tories: the BBC’s political editor, Laura Kuenssberg, being one of those having no problem squaring her duty of impartiality with full participation in conference events. But the most telling revelation came from the email newsletter circulated by Politico London Playbook.

At last night’s Spectator champagne reception at the Midland [Hotel] … pretty much the entire cabinet including … Rishi Sunak … Priti Patel … Michael Gove … Lix Truss … Ben Wallace … Oliver Dowden … Brandon Lewis … Sajid Javid … Nadhim Zahawi [who was also on last night’s BBCQT panel] … Gavin Williamson … Jacob Rees Mogg”.

And who might have attended from the media class? “The BBC’s Nick Robinson … ITV’s Robert Peston … Sky’s Sam Coates”. There was also the obligatory roll-call of those representing our free and fearless press, but it is those from the broadcast media whose presence should cause concern for voters - especially given who hosted that reception.

The Spectator. Yes, the increasingly alt-right Spectator magazine, which routinely publishes the outpourings of a self-confessed anti-Semite, Golden Dawn fan and admirer of Hitler’s Wehrmacht. The same magazine that has published a slew of Islamophobic bigotry. The same magazine that publishes the likes of Rod Liddle, who claimed he did not go into teaching because he’d have wanted to shag 14 and 15 year old children.

It’s the Speccy that gets away with the kind of stuff that Gammon Broadcasting™ News (“Bacon’s News Channel”) tries, but fails, to promote. Because the Speccy is part of the media establishment. It has a faux-posh editor who gets invited to pontificate on a variety of broadcast programmes. It publishes using an upmarket typeface.

And our media class has no problem in supping at their table. No problem in partying with the Tories, even as the Brexit adventure begins to collapse around Bozo and his pals. Even as the public mood so very obviously darkens. People realise they’ve been taken for mugs and lied to on an industrial scale. Our media class needs to heed the message.

Stop partying with the Tories and their racist pals. Or you’ll go down with their ship.

  1. Bruce?...Another British Bullshit Corporation "News" tory mouthpiece - this one with obvious elocution lessons. A comical lower middle class cardboard figure with a manufactured "personality" and an absurd one-eyebrow face.

The Spectator is the London equivalent of the Volkischer Beobachter. An appropriate host for a party of cryptofascists.

Because this is the end our "free and fearless" media will take us to. If we let them.

Bought-and-paid-for lying cowards and charlatans to a man and woman.

  3. That cast list — there’s never a giant lonely building-smashing space rock around when you most need one, is there?

  4. A conclusion to be heartily anticipated. A Spectator party sounds like an excellent opportunity to "collar the lot !" to coin a phrase.
