And so a momentous year moves towards its close. Our country is in a yet more precarious position than last year, and faces the prospect of being in a yet more precarious position this time next year. Also, the country is more divided than ever, any idea that there will be any healing of the divisions any time soon being for the birds.
The break-up of the Union into at least three pieces is not merely an empty threat, but increasingly the stuff of reality. And all the while, the chaos is presided over by inept and greedy politicians, along with their equally inept and greedy advisors, and overseen by inept and greedy press barons, plus a vast collection of unaccountable propagandists.
That there is a need for sensible and reasoned opposition to the current foolishness will become increasingly clear in the coming months. But for a few days at least, it will help us all to back off, relax, and enjoy the festivities. Christmas is upon us.
Many of those who claim to be Christians long ago forgot the message handed down to us from Biblical times. Let us not fall into their trap of selfishness. Consider those less well off, those who may be alone at this time of year, those who may not even have a place to call home, those who have lost friends and family, or have just become lost in the mayhem.
And do not despair of the future: the darkest hour is just before the dawn.
Zelo Street will return on or around December 27. Have a peaceful Christmas.
All the best to You and Yours, Tim. May the future bring you all you wish for.

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Tim, thanks to your amazing work, always entertaing & informative especially exposing the ludicrous slebs and the laughingly unaware Toby Young with Milo not far behind who has had a quiet year.
ReplyDeleteYour accurate that we are ruled by a bunch of self serving political elite with a media that just serves the interests of the corporations and the Tory government, which doesn't believe that the law applies to them.
Have a great Christmas and New Year, and thanks for your writing, it is always independent and aims toward hope. I appreciate your level-headedness, personally, it often calms me down when I am ready to vent and rant. Look forward to reading more. Thanks.
