The Sun Advocates Terrorism

After the Government lost a series of votes in the Commons earlier this week, our free and fearless press followed along behind, trying to interpret the defeats for their remaining readers. And one of those interpretations has verged on the hysterical, as the Murdoch goons at the Super Soaraway Currant Bun have gone off the end of the pier in no style at all, claiming that Parliament having a say on the deal has “Stolen Brexit”.
So it was that the paper proclaimed WRECKSIT on its front page, with non-bullying political editor Tom Newton Dunn forced to take dictation from disgraced former Defence Secretary Liam Fox, who “lashed out at the 26 Tory rebels who allied with Labour on Tuesday night”. And “The devastating blow for the PM saw Parliament seize back control of Brexit if her deal is voted down next Tuesday”. Parliament sovereign? No problem.

But this was a mere hors d’oeuvres for a much more pungent entrĂ©e, as today’s Sun editorial has gone full wacko and told MPs to do what the Murdoch mafiosi tell them - or there will be civil unrest. Or even worse. Under the headline “Crush this plot to steal Brexit” - perhaps Tony Gallagher is taking tips from his former boss at the Daily Mail - the Murdoch mafiosi finally loses it. It is not an appealing sight.
First, the target is identified. “It is sickening that the pro-EU lobby and its relentless propaganda machine has dragged us to the brink of this calamity … For more than two years these slick, lavishly-funded, highly organised politicians and campaigners have sabotaged Brexit negotiations. Nothing matters more to them than the europhile elite reimposing its will”. Projection. And then some. Second, some threats.

The second referendum they clamour for is the fastest and surest route to potentially unimaginable disorder”. Then a bit more ranting. “We voted Leave by a margin of 1.3million … How can any MP justify betraying that now? The answer: by lying. By concocting excuses. By claiming that the referendum wasn’t fair, or legal, or binding”. It wasn’t binding. And it was won by lawbreaking on an industrial scale.
And then the dam bursts. “If Remain won, our democracy would be shattered, all faith in politicians destroyed. That never ends well … Do you think Brits are too reserved for civil disorder? Cast your mind back to the riots of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990 or 2011. Or the febrile atmosphere of the referendum, during which Jo Cox MP was heartbreakingly murdered”. You want to be murdered, MPs? No? Then do as Rupe tells you.

They’re not finished: “What a tsunami of rage politicians would unleash by ignoring the democratic rights of millions on the winning side of the biggest vote in British history”. Like the Roman, I seem to see the Tiber foaming with much blood, eh? But do go on. “Is it a risk the second vote camp are ready to take? Because they will have to live with its consequences … Britain is already ‘a deeply fractured country’, in the words of Chancellor Philip Hammond yesterday … Imagine how bad it will get if MPs, having handed the people the right to choose Brexit, then steal it from us”.
Us? Us? An interfering foreigner who doesn’t have the vote in the UK? And Tony Gallagher, who thinks blowing £130 on an evening meal makes him a man of the people? But good to see the Murdoch press’ commitment to democracy is such that, if they don’t get the result they want, they are prepared to advocate terrorism. What a shower.

  1. Britain is indeed "...a deeply fractured country..."

Thanks in no small measure to media cowards and jobsworths employed by the likes of Murdoch/Rothermere and other far right corporate oligarchs.

A lot of chickens are finally beginning to come home to roost in the far right nest.

Now, of course, the guilty parties seek to blame everybody else for the sociopolitical mess they themselves created. 'Twas ever thus.

Meanwhile, nobody voted for a Brexit which will leave the country in a long term disastrous economic condition fit only for looting by the likes of the Maybot's hedge fund husband.

Plainly what's needed is yet another war to divert attention. Preferably in the usual cahoots with the world's rogue bully and terrorist country, the USA. And preferably against a helpless small nation. There can also be the usual demonising of Russia and China. In fact almost anything to "demonstrate" how "lucky we are to live in peace and prosperity" despite a quarter of our population living in poverty.

The cowards who work for corporate media will as usual be more than willing to play their role of gutless finger puppets. Of whom, Gallagher and Newton-Done are merely typical smears in a petrie dish.

  2. On the one hand we're told that had it gone the other way, the leave camp would have accepted the result and moved on.

On the other, they say that if anything threatens their victory, there'll be carnage.

Now, since the referendum there have been protests, marches, legal challenges, but to my knowledge not one remainer has been arrested, and it's all been orderly and indeed good humoured.

Tell me again who the unreasonable ones are.
