[Update at end of post]
Eleven mainly elderly worshippers were murdered last Saturday at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill district. The suspect, Robert Bowers, was armed with three Glock pistols and an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle, all of which he owned legally. He left a trail of anti-Semitic postings on the Gab site. He is a white male.

Combover Crybaby Donald Trump says he will visit the area, but as the BBC has reported, “Ahead of Mr Trump's proposed visit, progressive activists have called on the president to change his language towards minorities and immigrants … In an open letter, Jewish organisation Bend the Arc has said the president will not be welcome in Pittsburgh until he denounces white nationalism, ends his anti-immigrant rhetoric and commits to ‘compassionate’ policies”. Perhaps this is what set one Trump fan in the UK off.
To no surprise at all, that fan was pro-am motormouth Katie Hopkins, whose Twitter feed shows a gradual descent into full-on wacko anti-Semitism. One thing she was determined not to acknowledge: it could not have been the US White Right’s fault. So it must have been down to someone else. Who, then? Have a guess. “OBSERVE 1) Muslim council 2) Guardian /BBC Trying to push a highly politicised agenda in the face of the tragic slaughter of Jews”. Muslims. The Guardian. The BBC. And there was more.
“Synagogue Shooting: shooter entered yelling ‘All Jews Must Die’ 8 dead 3 police officers shot Gunman arrested How much longer will the Ellison: Farrakhan: Sarsour triumvirate be allowed to perpetuate attacks on Jews?” Louis Farrakhan? No, it wasn’t him, either.
Have another go. “Bezzies with #Farrakhan who called Jews termites, demands Muslim dehumanise Jews. We aren’t buying your tears Sarsour. You are complicit”. But it wasn’t Linda Sarsour. So she swiftly switched to the Labour Party.
No, I am not making this up. “You honoured terrorists who castrated & murdered Jews in Munich. You are complicit Corbyn”. Corbyn did not, and indeed could not, have honoured the Black September terrorists. He was in Tunis. They are buried in Libya.
Then, slowly, surely, anti-Semitism crept into her outpourings. First came the dog whistle: “Dear @peoplesvote_uk - maybe you could ask Sugar Daddy Soros to fund you in Brexit 50 pences. Just for the glorious contradiction”. Soros! He’s behind this too!
Then she discovered that Europe’s top Rabbi had called for solidarity with Muslims. And that was that: “The elephant in the room that NO ONE wants to address. The view of the Chief Rabbi v the views of lovely Jewish communities suddenly colonised by yet another mega-mosque OR patriots sick of the migrant deluge supported by religious seniors”.
There she was, over the anti-Semitism line and ready to blame Jews for, er, the mass shooting of Jews. “Watching the pin-the-blame on the donkey after #PittsburghSynagogue. ... Gab. Trump. White Supremcists. The Media. Muslims. Look to the Chief Rabbi and his support for mass migration across the Med. There you will find your truths”.
It was the Jews’ fault for reaching out to those fleeing the kinds of conflicts that the allegedly civilised West had set in train. Inevitable really: Hatey Katie is virulently Islamophobic. She just added anti-Semitism to her portfolio.

[UPDATE 30 October 1110 hours: Hatey Katie deleted the Tweet saying "Look to the Chief Rabbi and his support for mass migration across the Med", and then came the grovelling climbdown.
"I have deleted a tweet which has been misinterpreted to suggest the UK Chief Rabbi's support for mass migration was related to the horrific mass murder at the synagogue in Pittsburgh. Clearly the blame rests with the murderer alone". Misinterpretation my arse.
And there was more. "I have always been a staunch defender of the Jewish people, including through the mission to Israel that I led this summer. I would never wish to detract from that and continue to offer my loyal support to my Jewish friends". Some of her best friends are Jewish.
One observer of the Hopkins style, or more correctly the lack of it, was unimpressed. "Translation: I've been caught being racist against Jews this time and Ezra didn't like it. My loyal support is to my dwindling bank balance. I'd like to say never again but meh".
She really is desperate to keep the money coming in. Next thing, she'll actually learn to say sorry]

The woman has become a cartoon of hate masquerading as Homo sapiens.
ReplyDeleteShe's on the verge of drowning in her own rabid spittle.
A truly pathetic, sick figure.
She is quite a loose cannon and shoots from the hip far too much.
ReplyDeleteBut criticising George Soros isn’t anti Semitic just because he’s Jewish.
That would be foolish. He’s Jewish so what?
He also funds the left, and it’s OK for right wingers to raise that I think.
I’ve heard it said that he gives money to Antifa.
I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if he did, then it’s fair enough to raise that.
They are violent and think they have the right to decide who deserves to be assaulted and branded fascist etc.
Who do you want to have the right to make decisions about who deserves to be branded fascist Damon?
DeleteThis woman is desperate for attention, playing the three step connection blame game with Muslims or Corbyn or, frankly, anybody that catches her eye for a few seconds. You watch - she will be blaming the dark evenings and colder weather on the way Labour isn't properly condemning the thousands of Muslims marching on the southern US border as they flee Syria.
ReplyDeleteUtterly barking.
damon "I’ve heard it said that he gives money to Antifa.

Instead you post it not caring if it's false but wholly aware that it's damaging. Well done. A Roseanne Barr tactic.
'In late May, the same day she got fired by the US TV network ABC for her racist tweet about Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Roseanne Barr accused Chelsea Clinton of being married to George Soros’s nephew. “Chelsea Soros Clinton,” Barr tweeted, knowing that the combination of names was enough to provoke a reaction. In the desultory exchange that followed, the youngest Clinton responded to Roseanne by praising Soros’s philanthropic work with his Open Society Foundations. To which Barr responded in the most depressing way possible, repeating false claims earlier proferred by rightwing media personalities: “Sorry to have tweeted incorrect info about you! Please forgive me! By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth – were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?” '
'Barr’s tweet was quickly retweeted by conservatives, including Donald Trump Jr. This shouldn’t have surprised anyone.' - By Daniel Bessner, The Guardian. 6 July 2018.
First to Stephen Whitaker, who should have that right? Good question.
ReplyDeleteNot Antifa I would say, as they are getting it very wrong. See them in the US turning out to attack Trump supporters and those non fascist “chauvinist” groups The Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer. So clearly non fascist and “Nazi” that they have black and minority ethnic members and supporters. And in Britain, the rather overreacting “Democratic Football Lads Alliance” are also neither fascist or “Nazi”.
But that’s all Antifa and the anti fascist left shout at them.
I don’t mean the DFLA are great people or anything like that.
But they should be treated as just another sub-class minority in Britain who should be allowed to have their say.
And if you don’t like what they say, fair enough. It’s supposed to be a democracy.
To Ceiliog, what’s “damaging” about me writing a post on a not widely read blog?
As for George Soros and Antifa - I can only go on what I see when I look up to see if there’s any truth in it.
I read that he’s funded something called “Alliance for Global Justice” which has links to Antifa.
But if it’s not true, then it’s not. How the hell is anyone meant to know if things like that are true or not?
He funded Black Lives Matter I believe. Which has turned out to be a pretty divisive movement, which has led to the death of policemen and acts of racist violence against white motorists.
Hopkins ran "A mission to Israel"?
ReplyDeleteOh do fuck off Hopkins. Do us all a favour.
I note that she "apologised" to the Chief Rabbi but she didn't apologise to the Muslims that she tried to smear.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is that the alleged killer, Robert Bowers has more in common with Hopkins than he has with any Muslim. He was white, right-wing and opposed non-white and non-Christian immigration. He also hated Muslims.

ReplyDeleteA policeman in Houston, Texas is shot dead by someone and Sheriff Ron Hickman* blames Black Lives Matter. Motormouths pick up on the allegation and report it as if there is a real connection; There isn't.
The usual suspects turn up often to point fingers and hurl verbal poison at the Alliance for Global Justice. "Your Antifa is funded by Alliance for Global Justice, Refuse Fascism, the Tides Foundation and billionaire George Soros. These are ALL COMMUNISTS" says someone on his Facebook page.
And we all know how dangerous ALL COMMUNISTS are don't we? Especially COMMUNIST HEDGE FUND MANAGERS!
* Ron Hickman is no longer the Sheriff. Thinking that his officers are entitled to pull the underwear off a woman and search her vagina in public is acceptable behaviour didn't go well at the Court hearing.
@Damon - BLM is a movement, a flag, and is not an organisation that can be 'funded' by Soros or anyone else. Only the official BLM Network is structured, and affiliates have received funding from the Soros backed Democracy Alliance. The funding is targeted at specific groups and non-violent struggle is a prerequisite of qualifying for financial help. It also has to said that the aid offered and received is a matter of public record, as is the use to which it is put - mainly education, debt relief and legal costs. If only major right-wing conservative organisations had such transparency.
ReplyDelete@Ceiliog - Micah Xavier Johnson killed five Dallas police officers in 2016 “in revenge” for the things BLM was so vocally protesting about.
ReplyDeletePolice in the USA kill lots of people. The majority killed are white. It’s a consequence of having armed police in a gun flooded nation.
The police are workers working for wages and are servants of the community. They are all individuals and can make bad judgment calls or might not be well enough trained. But my guess is only a minority would be hard core racists who would kill black people for racist reasons.
@MikeD I would agree that BLM probably doesn’t need much funding. Just like the EDL didn’t over here, but still the left used to go on about where were they getting their money from. All sides play these games of casting aspersions on their political opponents. The idea of some bogeyman wealthy founder, pulling strings from the sidelines is always a popular fantasy.
The left do it with that Arron Banks guy, the right go on about Soros.
I stand by the idea that BLM have offered mostly division though.
In Britain they’ve even tried to start up BLM. When it’s black lives being taken by other black people, not white racists or the police.
damon:
ReplyDeleteQuick to defend the police for shootings for which they are responsible. Quick to blame BLM for shootings for which they are not responsible.
"Black Lives Matter Activists, Civil Rights Leaders Condemn Dallas Ambush" - NBC News 8 July2016
"Micah Johnson, the man accused of killing five police officers in a gun attack during a protest rally in Dallas, acted alone, officials believe." - BBC News 9 July 2016
Aaron Banks "left"?
ReplyDeleteJesus wept......
I’m not defending the police. It’s a different country to the U.K. Guns are everywhere. The police get called out every time there’s a report of a shooting and they have to go looking for the people involved. I certainly wouldn’t like to have to do it. With a population of 325 million and all those guns and crime - of course there are police shootings. How wouldn’t there be? Sometimes they get it wrong. How wouldn’t they?
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be denying their humanity and hence their fallibility. You’re suggesting they kill black people with racist criminal intent.
Which I think is absurd. You will admit that there are “ghettos” in the US won’t you? Which are full of crime and social problems.
It’s always going to be difficult to police such communities.
Black Lives Matter is built on the idea that the police take black lives because police are racists.
That’s bullshit and most police shootings occur because policemen feel their own lives are under threat at that moment.
Like with the original case in Ferguson Missouri.
Don’t blame the individual police for social issues that are much more intractable than any officer or police force can do anything about.
That’s not to say there isn’t bad practice by police forces.
It does seem like the Ferguson police was a badly run and underfunded force, and they picked on motorists travelling through their jurisdiction ..... to make money for the city. That was wrong and disproportionately affected black people.
damon resorts to putting words into other people's mouths.
ReplyDeletedamon has his own version of how #BlackLivesMatter started.
damon says that the situation in the USA is intractable.
damon says that individual police officers should not be blamed.
Well, damon, there are many who don't accept the view that nothing can be done and that innocent lives lost in shootings is unavoidable.
Don’t worry about it Ceiliog. It’s obvious we’re on different sides of this “cultural curtain/divide”.
ReplyDeleteWhat we say about these things is incomprehensible to the other. Oil and water etc.
You’re convinced the police in the US go around killing innocent black people because they’re such racists.
And I think that’s mad. But it’s just that incomprehensible difference in our views.
You probably see “Nazis” at every turn, and fascism on the rise etc. Maybe you’re one of those Antifa types who covers their faces and goes out to “bash the fash” on those protests.
You only have to look at them on YouTube to see how far gone that mentality is (in my opinion).
Politics is dead. Now it’s just about people and their convictions.
You’ve got yours and I’ve got mine.
damon
ReplyDeleteMaybe the straw man/effigy you have of me says and thinks those things.
Well if you’re not actually like that Ceiliog, there’s plenty who are .... and you were sounding quite like them.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry if I’ve pigeonholed you wrongly.
