If ever there was a dead giveaway that the bigotry of London’s formerly very occasional Mayor Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson had the backing of many in the right-leaning part of the press establishment, it was the behaviour of the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines and his rabble at the Guido Fawkes blog that provided it.
After Bozza compared women wearing the burqa to “letterboxes” and said they looked “like bank robbers”, there was The Great Guido with every conceivable lame excuse as to why he’d done nothing wrong, it wasn’t much of a row anyway, and in any case it was all the work of dastardly Remainers. You think I jest? Here goes.
It was Brandon Lewis’ fault: “Just when the Boris / burka story was dying down, Brandon Lewis appears to have deliberately fanned the flames … It is hard to see Lewis’ tweet as anything other than virtue signalling … Once again it falls to Guido to point out that the Boris row is largely confected outrage from his enemies … You don’t need to be a pollster to know that Boris’ position is - obviously - far more liberal than the view of the country”.
Bozza is just so liberal, honestly! And there was more. “When you cut through the faux outrage and hand-wringing about Boris and the burka, it is obvious that this row is entirely about Brexit and the Tory leadership. The Tories criticising Boris are ultra-Remainers: Sayeeda Warsi, Anna Soubry, Heidi Allen, Jonathan Djanogly, Alistair Burt. Theresa May, in a carefully prepared knifing on the news last night, attempted to do in the one person she fears could deliver a proper Brexit”. Nobody fears Bozza will deliver any Brexit.
Bozza couldn’t deliver an act of alcoholic derangement in an EU wine lake. He couldn’t deliver a takeaway pizza. But still, the Fawkes rabble have their instructions from the likes of Rebekah Brooks, and so on they drone. “Brandon Lewis, who is responsible for this story rumbling on with his calculated tweet attacking Boris yesterday, sees himself as the great Remain hope. Number 10, CCHQ and Remainer Tory MPs know Boris is the main threat to their soft Brexit”. Like heck he does.
It has sweet Jack to do with Lewis, or indeed anyone else in the Tory Party, seeking personal advantage - well, apart from Bozza. Still, if at first you don’t succeed, well, just try sucking some more seed instead, eh? On droned the Fawkes folks, telling how Ken Clarke once said something he might nowadays not say about Islamic dress. Oh, and Anna Soubry once said something in the same vein.
None of the Fawkes flailing addresses the clear intent of their hero: to whip up the right, and by doing so, propel Himself Personally Now into Downing Street. It’s got sod all to do with delivering any kind of Brexit. Bozza isn’t about delivering Brexit, he’s about promoting his own agenda, which means promoting himself to the party leadership.
But good of The Great Guido to let everyone know that Bozza’s defence is being led by his pals in the media. Pity those same pals also don’t get what racism really means.

"...virtue signalling..."?
ReplyDeleteEven by the "standards" of the Staines Gammon Gang that bullshit wants some beating.
Meanwhile, seriously, you have to wonder what the fuck Boris thinks he sees when he looks in his mirror.
All I see in him is a fat moron with a brain the size of a pea and a mouth like a rip in a welly.
Johnson is backed by Farage in the burqa controversy.
ReplyDeleteThat, my friends, says it all. Now turn off the lights and go home.
This is what a print press packed with sock puppets gets you.
ReplyDeleteJust what has this got to do with Staines anyway? He is an Irish citizen and resident who pays his taxes who knows where? What right has he to push his Brexit drivel on us when after 2019 and the UK is out of the EU he will still have a red EU passport!
