As the case for Britain to continue with the exercise of leaving the EU begins to come under attack and the polls slide, with sizeable majorities of Labour, Lib Dem and SNP voters in favour of a second referendum on Brexit, our free and fearless press has decided that some kind of “look over there” tactic is necessary in order to stiffen the readers’ resolve and distract them from the increasingly bad news.
And so it came to pass that yesterday, the Murdoch goons at the Super Soaraway Currant Bun gave pride of place to the front page splash “Post Bosses Slammed … ROYAL FAIL … No special stamps for Brexit … but 15 for Game of Thrones”. Those “Post Bosses” didn’t even know there was a problem before the inmates of the Baby Shard bunker invented it. But few were swayed by this invented drivel.
So today came a second attempt as the Sun told readers “Give Brexit Stamp Of Approval … BOJO: I’M A BREXLICKER”. Fact: Royal Mail stamps have been self adhesive for several years now. The equally lame text was co-authored by the odious flannelled fool Master Harry Cole, formerly tame gofer to the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines at the Guido Fawkes blog, for whom dishonesty has become a way of life.
Master Cole’s co-author was Lynn Davidson, alleged to be the paper’s “Whitehall Correspondent”, and who has been obediently endorsing the smears put out against Keir Starmer by Cole’s former workmate Alex “Billy Liar” Wickham this morning. The Sun has been reduced to getting its stories secondhand from a borderline Fake News blog.
So what are they claiming about Brexit stamps, or the lack of them? “BORIS Johnson has backed The Sun’s campaign for the Royal Mail to release special stamps to ‘show the world we’ve got Brexit licked’”. Wrong. Rebekah Brooks still has the leverage over Bozza that she’s been using to work him to her advantage for the past year and a half.
Bozza is doing as he is told. The script has probably been written for him. But do go on. “But government Brexiteers continued to give the Sun’s campaign their backing”. How many “Government Brexiteers”? “Tory MP Andrew Bridgen”. Oh, just f*** right off.
Meanwhile, the lies just keep on coming. Under the headline “Chief Is A Remoaner” (abuse: check!), readers are told “MOANING Royal Mail chief Moya Greene last year let the firm blame Brexit ‘business uncertainty’ for poor business results”. So she didn’t comment on it, then. The Murdoch goons are so inept they call her “Ms Moya”.
Any more whoppers? Why not: “NO prizes for guessing which way Postal Services Minister Margot James voted on Brexit”. Which way she voted is immaterial. We know this because the same article has confirmed “Last night a Government spokesman said: ‘All commercial and operational matters, including stamp themes, of the Royal Mail are independent of the government’”. The Sun confirms the Sun is lying to its readers.
The Murdoch mafiosi invent their own shock horror story, smear those involved, and then lie to their readers. And then they wonder why trust in their piss-poor rag is at rock bottom.
This is a saga with one clear message: Don’t Buy The Sun.
Tim,
ReplyDeleteAs you know I have been doing a bit of a circuit run across media offices with regards to my employment (I'm doing it for charity. Honest).
Anyway, I was thinking if my recent job at Rebel Media goes Tits up I could get a job with you.
I can go incognito, of course.
Use a name that isn't obviously identifiable but reflects my current employment axing situation.
Something like K8tee Chopkins?
Call me!
That this all started as a Twitter thread by Jon Worth illustrating 95% of what would happen if such a farrago was concocted... Cole's Westminster beat still going no further than an app on his phone.
