Observers would never know that opinion polls are showing a modest but consistent Tory lead in the run-up to tomorrow’s General Election by looking at today’s desperate outpourings from the right-leaning part of the Fourth Estate. The desperation is particularly acute for the Murdoch goons at the Super Soaraway Currant Bun, who have brought forth a particularly hot and steaming pile of weapons grade bullpucky .
The problem for the inmates of the Baby Shard bunker is that their lead story is yet another pack of lies. “Sun Investigates Corbyn … JEZZA’S JIHADI COMRADES … Fiery speech to fanatics who inspired terror attacks” reads the headline, with the first lie coming in the first three words. So what’s the fact of this particular matter?
The Sun is not investigating anyone. This “story”, such as it is, has been lifted from the Guido Fawkes blog, the original being posted yesterday. It was written by Fawkes teaboy Alex Wickham, who is not known as “Billy Liar” for nothing.
Milk, no sugar, thanks
The Sun story was written by another proven liar. The name on the byline is that of the odious flannelled fool Master Harry Cole, formerly the tame gofer to the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines at … yes, the Guido Fawkes blog. Master Cole’s first Sun front page splash, which claimed Jeremy Corbyn would have to kneel before the Queen in order for Labour to secure its allocation of “Short Money”, was another pack of lies.
The account of the demonstration addressed by Corbyn is misleading to the point of deceit. A rally was held in Trafalgar Square in 2002, and as such was open to any member of the public to attend. Around 25,000 did so. On the fringe, between 200 and 300 meatheads from al-Muhajiroun fetched up and made a nuisance of themselves.
Smile, 'cos your bullshit's earning ... smile, though your pants are burning
Quotes from the Weekly Worker are so selective to be worthless. Cole asserts “Witnesses said members of al-Muhajiroun … were among crowds addressed by the Labour leader in Trafalgar Square … Some were dressed as suicide bombers [there were just two of them] … An account in the Weekly Worker read: ‘Al-Muhajiroun chanted, “Skud, Skud Israel” and “Gas, gas Tel Aviv”, along with their support for Bin Laden’”.
The reality of the event is somewhat different. This is what the Weekly Worker also said: “There were many muslim contingents, mostly from the mainstream, who were at pains to distance themselves from the hard-line islamists of the Hamas/Al Qa'eda type … The islamist fundamentalists attempt to sabotage any possibility of Israeli-Palestinian unity around a democratic programme - both on the ground in the Middle East and in solidarity movements abroad. They ought to have no place on our demonstrations - we must organise to exclude them … the unwelcome presence of Al Muhajiroun”.
The Sun also lies about who addressed the rally. Readers are shown photos of Omar Bakri Muhammad and Anjem Choudary, but not only did neither address the rally - they were not even there. A few hotheads from al-Muhajiroun turned up and tried to disrupt a mainstream protest about the plight of the Palestinians. That is all.
Still, Master Cole and teaboy Wickham will get a few biscuits thrown their way. What happens to the other 60 million in the UK after polling day? As if these two shits give a flying foxtrot about that. What you will not read in the Sun.
Is any further proof needed of the cowardice and lies of Murdoch's gutless jobsworth boot Boys?
ReplyDeleteI am surprised by this account because it suggests an organised militant Muslim presence of which I was totally unaware, as I guess were many of the others who attended this demonstration. I have pictures of what I took to be ordinary teenage hotheads, one of whom is wearing an obviously fake suicide belt. I can't remember what my reaction was at the time but I guess I thought they were just boys going a bit too far. The context for the demonstration was the escalation of violence in the Occupied West Bank which the more far-sighted of us sensed was part of the softening up that was to take us into the war with Iraq within the year.
ReplyDeleteThis takes journalism to a new low. How both the writer and editor of these lies can sleep at night is beyond me. The words responsible journalism obviously are not in the Suns vocabular. Is there no way that the Sun can be brought before the complaints commission.
ReplyDeleteSadly these lies will be believed by some members of the public who might have voted Labour before but now vote Conservative.
This is a distortion of our democratic process and should not be tolerated.
