The perpetually thirsty Paul Staines and his rabble at the Guido Fawkes blog were in triumphant mood this morning after putting one over on the hated BBC, and thereby no doubt generating storylines which can be passed on to their pals in the Baby Shard bunker, telling readers “BBC Admits Running Remain Adverts In ‘Error’”. You didn’t see those adverts? That’s because they don’t feature on the Beeb’s UK content.
To help pay for the costs of running the site, the BBC runs adverts, but only if you are viewing their content from outside the country. So the target audience, for elections taking place in the country, is rather small. But that did not stop the Fawkes folks thundering “Proof: Remain Campaign Is Paying BBC” when advertising for Britain Stronger In Europe was discovered by one person viewing the site from abroad.
They declared “This is what British ex-pats overseas are seeing when they go online at the UK politics page of the BBC News website. The BBC website is - in clear breach of internal guidelines - pushing adverts from the official Remain campaign. The BBC has previously denied being in receipt of pro-EU funds”. So running those adverts, while knowing they were being run, is clearly A Very Bad Thing.
They appear on Zelo Street ...
And this morning, the Fawkes rabble were back on the case, confirming “A Beeb spokesman gets in touch to confirm they did indeed run the adverts, in ‘error’ … ‘Third party’ adverts can be filtered to avoid marketing content that is inappropriate for your organisation. Something the BBC clearly didn’t do”. Yeah, that rotten leftie BBC! I mean, who would knowingly run those adverts and take that pro-EU cash?
... but then, so does other random stuff ...
Well, some blogs don’t have a choice what comes up in the accompanying adverts, so the adverts for the Remain campaign have appeared on Zelo Street, but then, so have ads for the all-new Lexus NX (“amazing in motion”), and I didn’t ask for those either. But some sites don’t have that excuse - especially those sites that pour out anti-EU copy, while with the other hand happily accepting those Remain adverts.
... and some people run the ads knowingly ...
Who would do such a thing? Well, as can be seen here, thanks to an eagle-eyed observer, the batshit collective known as Breitbart London, home of Raheem “call me Ray” Kassam and James “saviour of Western civilisation” Delingpole, a source of any information provided it is acceptable to Nigel “Thirsty” Farage and his fellow saloon bar propper-uppers at UKIP, has knowingly run the Britain Stronger In Europe adverts.
... including, er, HELLO?!?
And they aren’t the only ones out on the right who are shamelessly taking the Remain campaign’s money while kicking the BBC. Joining the Breitbart mob are none other than Staines and his rabble themselves: yes, The Great Guido has been running the Britain Stronger In Europe adverts too, while laying into the Beeb for doing the same thing on a rather smaller scale. Can you smell even more hypocrisy?
Look over there. Do as we say, not as we do. Another fine mess, once again.
Idiotic to compare the BBC public service provider with two bit blogs like Zelo Street, they have a legal obligation, they breeched it. You ignorance knows no bounds, there are two million Brits living in Europe, any that have voted in the last 15 years are eligible to vote in the referendum, It is what those who have a clue about such things call a key battleground.

ReplyDeleteWhy don't you use your real name, Peter?
You know, Peter Thompson aka The Red Rag?
You could also mug up on your spelling, while realising the Fawkes blog, whatever its shortcomings, secures a large readership IN THE UK.
And, as I told you on Twitter in the last hour, abuse noted.
Blimey, we do know how to touch a nerve, don't we Peter?
