Boris Hitler Hypocrisy

It has not been the most auspicious week for those wanting Britain to leave the European Union, what with the meltdown of Dominic Cummings, former chief polecat to Michael “Oiky” Gove, over the ITV decision to invite Nigel “Thirsty” Farage to a debate featuring the Prime Minister, rather than Gove or Boris Johnson. Then there was the appalling disrespect shown to Parliament by Cummings and his pal Matthew “Gromit” Elliott.

And this morning, along has come Bozza to put the lid on it, by following the tradition for former London Mayors established only a few weeks ago by Ken Livingstone, of blundering into any given debate and declaring “Yes, but Hitler”. We’ve got more than a month to go before the Referendum, and already the Out campaign has not only hit bedrock, but has called in the digging machines. 

Bozza “said the idea of a single European government was an attempt to recover the continent's 'golden age' under Roman rule” and more specifically, he told “The truth is that the history of the last couple of thousand years has been broadly repeated attempts by various people or institutions - in a Freudian way - to rediscover the lost childhood of Europe, this golden age of peace and prosperity under the Romans, by trying to unify it … Napoleon, Hitler, various people tried this out, and it ends tragically”.

What he says about the EU now ...

He went on “The EU is an attempt to do this by different methods … But fundamentally what is lacking is the eternal problem, which is that there is no underlying loyalty to the idea of Europe … There is no single authority that anybody respects or understands. That is causing this massive democratic void”. That’s most creative of him.

It’s also a rather different view of the EU to that expressed in a recent book on the life and times of Winshton, where readers are told “When Churchill looked at what was unfolding in Europe in the 1950s, he didn’t have any feeling of rancour, or regret, or exclusion. On the contrary, he looked at the developing plans for a common market with a paternal pride. It was his idea to bring these countries together, to bind them so indissolubly that they could never go to war again - and who can deny, today, that this idea has been a spectacular success?” And there was more.

... versus what he said about it last year

“Together with NATO (another institution for which he can claim joint credit) the European Community, now Union, has delivered a period of peace and prosperity for its people as long as any since the days of the Antonine emperors”.

Who, then, was the author of this paean of praise for the EU? It was none other than the well-known journalist and historian … and former Mayor of London Boris Johnson. Only last year he was singing the praises of the EU, if only to allow him to cobble together a not particularly good book on Winshton in order to allow Beano Boris to score More And Bigger Paycheques For Himself Personally Now.

Then he goes and says “EU means Hitler, chaps - crikey!” What a complete clown.
