Kavanagh Sun Trial Spin Fails

The last two Sun hacks charged under what was called Operation Elveden have been cleared of any wrongdoing. As a result, faithful Murdoch retainer Trevor Kavanagh has leapt to the defence of his former colleagues: the verdicts: “mark the end of a costly and vindictive vendetta by an unholy alliance of politicians, police and prosecutors … This was a blatant travesty of justice from start to finish, driven by the hatred of the Labour left towards its critics - especially this newspaper”.
Why did Kavanagh cross the road? To obtain More And Bigger Paycheques For Himself Personally Now

Those familiar with Kavanagh’s tendency to talk well, and lie badly, will not be surprised to know that neither the “Labour left”, nor any other part of the party, nor indeed any other politician, was involved. But mere facts do not deter him.

Despite one defeat after another, the trials have clogged the Old Bailey while major crimes of rape, murder and terror were put on hold … More important, it condemned dozens of innocent men and women to four years of judicial torture … Despite their acquittals, these exonerated journalists have already served time for crimes that never took place”. They didn’t serve any time, and the “clogged” claim is fantasy.

Meanwhile, Kav is on to his demands, or rather those of his boss Creepy Uncle Rupe: “Without question, [Alison] Saunders must resign or be sacked … [Bernard] Hogan-Howe, an incompetent zealot with a record of costly policing disasters, should be dumped as soon as his soon-to-expire term is over … London Mayor Boris Johnson must rethink his ludicrous plan to offer him three more years”. But not everyone shares his view.

NUJ general secretary Michelle Stanistreet, whose interest is serving journalists’ interests, rather than Kavanagh’s priority of heeding His Master’s Voice, was having none of it: “There is no doubt the villain of the piece is Rupert Murdoch and his henchmen and women. When the phone hacking scandal broke, his reaction was save his corporate neck. He closed the News of the World and, under Will Lewis, set up the management standards committee and became the coppers' nark by handing over, wholesale, the emails of his staff including communications between them and their sources”.

There was more. “Murdoch was prepared to throw them all to the wolves. He didn't care about his staff. He didn't care about the protection journalists need for a free press. He didn't care when the whistleblowers and public officials were sent to prison because he had handed them over to the police”. All those sources jailed and their careers ruined.

Ms Stanistreet’s conclusion? “We must never have a situation where journalists are abused in this way. If they have no guarantee they can to do their jobs safely and can protect their sources and journalistic material, we will not have a functioning free press”.

In other words, the threat to press freedom in this case came not from Alison Saunders, Bernard Hogan-Howe, or the “Labour left”, but the billionaire who bankrolls the likes of Trevor Kavanagh to churn out packs of lies on his behalf. While this slimy and unprincipled hack pretends to occupy the moral high ground, he is in reality defending the indefensible.

Then, when sources are understandably reluctant to talk to the Sun, this too will be someone else’s fault. Being a Murdoch lapdog means never having to say you’re sorry.

  1. Kavanagh doesn't "talk well." He's every bit as much of a piece of corrupt neocon filth as the other Nazi, MacKenzie. Between them they have helped bring the press in this country to its knees with the kind of sickening "work" they might have learned at the knee of Goebbels or Streicher. Which means they have earned the utter contempt of what's left of decency in Britain.

He and MacKenzie both have their head up Murdoch's arse at the same time. They'll do anything for his shilling.

As for the assorted gang of cockney boot boys the law has seen fit to find not guilty.....the system might have given them a Get Out of Jail card, but I won't. The lot of them should have been locked up for the same number of years they have lied to and Nazi-propagandised the public. Me, I'd throw the key away.

Because of them it'll take years to clean out the media culture of this country. That's if hacks can summon the courage to fumigate the place. But don't hold your breath.
