Nigel “Thirsty” Farage and his fellow saloon bar propper-uppers achieved one notable former YBF recruit when Mr Thirsty engaged the services of Raheem “call me Ray” Kassam, who styled himself “Mr Conservative”, and later claimed to be a “Goldwater Conservative”, as his personal spinner, since when the Kippers have been getting a progressively less good press.
“And they suggest the party may have skeletons in the closet which he has been tasked to hide. The minutes state: 'We need to ensure all of the bad stuff is kept out of the public domain … As party secretary (Mr Richardson) would try to ensure that we keep a tight rein on things'”. So who is Matthew Richardson? Well, he appears wary of letting people know too much about himself, and has no extant Twitter feed.
But, as he is one of the YBF’s staff, we do know that he “is a former Conservative Future National Deputy Chairman”. Conservative Future (CF) is the current incarnation of what used to be known as the Young Conservatives. Richardson works closely with YBF head man Donal Blaney, so much so that he helped Blaney to serve an injunction via Twitter to stop someone who had been posting using the same name.
Think about that. The YBF attracts many prominent Tory MPs and MEPs to its gatherings, including Party Chairman Grant “Spiv” Shapps and Eric Pickles. Yet it has one of its staff working for, and one has to assume supporting, the Kippers. Donal Blaney’s outfit would not have its staff working for Labour, the Lib Dems, or the Greens. Are they hedging their bets? Can the Tories still count on the loyalty of their alumni?
And will the Tories keep on buying all that training from the YBF? Watch this space.
Quote '...They state Mr Richardson’s role as party secretary would be deciding ‘whether to take injunctions out’ when Ukip is criticised in the media...'
ReplyDeleteSo the party that 'tells it like it is' doesnt want critics to say it like it is about UKIP. Anyway, can you injunct criticism? Looking forward to them wasting a lot of their money on chasing critics.
It's not a YBF split, it's a takeover of UKIP. Matthew Richardson has been a member of UKIP since 2011and has been party secretary fo well over a year.
ReplyDeleteUKIP MP Douglas Carswell was recently (January 2015) appointed as one of two vice presidents of the YBF (Young Britons Foundation).
ReplyDeleteYBF founder Donald Blaney is also Chief Executive of The Margaret Thatcher Centre. He frequently tweets or retweets messages on twitter that could certainly be seen as supportive to Farage/UKIP.
Blaney is also in favour of the UK having similar handgun laws to the US; thinks global warming is "a scam" and wrote an article on his own website, entitled 'Scrap the NHS, not just targets': http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/mar/06/tory-madrasa-young-britons-foundation

YBF President and Tory MEP Daniel Hannan is also involved with the right wing US think tank Heritage Foundation, another organisation that UKIP have been cosying up to: https://twitter.com/janiceukip/status/507907570754146304
The current Heritage Foundation president is 'Tea Party hero' Jim Demint: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/dec/07/tea-party-jim-demint-leaves-senate
The Heritage Foundation, Young Americans Foundation (US arm of the YBF) and the The Margaret Thatcher Centre are all included on the list of sponsors of the CPAC February 2015 conference in Washington - speakers this year include Nigel Farage, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump: http://cpac.conservative.org/agenda/
