6 Patrick Mercer – Where They Should Have Looked There was surprise that the no longer Tory MP for Newark had not managed to do a few minutes’ Googling to show that he was being set up to work for phony companies. But Mercer is well known for his computer illiteracy – if you know who to consult, that is.

5 Telegraph Mass Resignation Imminent All those pundits at the Tel who despise the BBC must be queuing up to leave, following the revelation that the paper has been joining forces with the Corporation. They aren’t? There’s high principle for you.

4 The Mail And Lucy Meadows – As Predicted The obedient hackery of the legendarily foul mouthed Paul Dacre claimed that they were not to blame for the apparent suicide of transsexual schoolteacher Lucy Meadows – as I predicted the day before.

3 Platell In Trouble? Second week in the Top Six for this post: Amanda Bloody Platell either broke the law in viewing child pornography, or (more likely) what she saw was legal and she’s bluffing. The Mail has been conspicuously silent about her “investigation” since.

2 Lucy Meadows – Mail Get-Out Clause The coroner supervising the inquest of Lucy Meadows aimed squarely at the press. But her suicide note did not specifically attack the Fourth Estate. So the Mail had a get-out. It used it the following day.

1 Lucy Meadows – Shame Of The Local Press The Accrington Observer reported the inquest into Lucy Meadows’ death as if it was a detached observer. It was not. It had started the whole thing rolling in the first place.
