5 All Aboard The Malignant Express The Express’ latest EU scare story was so blatantly dishonest that even the man from the anti-EU Telegraph called it “malignant”. Not that this will stop the Daily UKIP.

4 Dacre Doubly Dishonoured The Daily Mail railed against the Queen’s birthday honours list, not out of principle, but because its legendarily foul mouthed editor was not on it – again. And this may have been his last chance before retirement.

3 Murdoch Split Reported By Everyone Rupe filed for divorce from third wife Wendi Deng, and even his papers covered the story, but only to carry the approved message – that this changes nothing. And so the News Corp share price held steady, as required.

2 Return Of The Gove Polecats The @toryeducation Twitter feed sprang back into characteristically abusive life as Michael “Oiky” Gove launched his wonderful new version of the GCSE. But it was not long before the howler came: the account, reckoned to be run by Dominic Cummings and Henry de Zoete, couldn’t figure out the difference between a play and a novel. Extra homework needed there, then.

1 Murdoch Rumour Mill Adopts Familiar Tone Was anyone else involved in the Murdoch divorce? Before long, the name of a fairly regular guy, and former Prime Minister, had been pitched and not convincingly rebutted. There may be more to come on this one.
