Mad Mel’s Stateside Shambles

Events stateside are clearly not to the liking of many on the right, and some of those observing the slow motion car crash that is the Romney campaign are starting to exhibit signs of distress. This is particularly true of Melanie “not just Barking but halfway to Upminster” Phillips, who is in danger of losing her fragile grip on reality altogether as she froths at the terrible injustice of it all.

Not fair and becoming unbalanced

“Shocking! A US Presidential candidate tells some home truths!” she observes, before also noting “Almost half the American people receive government hand-outs and pay no income tax? That’s truly shocking”. It certainly would be if it were true, but as with so much from Mad Mel, it isn’t. Mitt stated – correctly – that 47% of citizens pay no federal income tax.

What he did not say was that they are all in receipt of federal, or any other, benefits. For instance, a married couple with four dependent children earning as much as $50,000 a year won’t pay federal income tax. So when Mel froths “too much of America is being sucked into state dependency – and that by increasing their number Obama is effectively gerrymandering the election”, it’s crap.

Not only that, it’s malicious crap. The 47% includes seniors, who get Medicare, and veterans (who benefit from armed forces’ medical cover), as well as those less well off already mentioned. A Republican candidate for President should expect to garner significant numbers of votes from the first two of those groups – especially veterans. That Romney has effectively insulted them is what he’s done wrong.

But Mel can’t get her head round that kind of thing. Instead, she goes off on a foreign policy rant, suggesting that Barack Obama somehow encouraged “empowerment of Islamist fanatics” and that he is “kow-towing” to them. And of course she trots out her routine of demonising the Palestinians, before suggesting that Hezbollah might just sneak some fissile material into the USA to make a “dirty bomb”.

This is just nuts, and so is her assertion that “the Obama administration has bent over backwards to sanitise and effectively condone genocidal Palestinian rejectionism of Israel”. We know this, because Haim Saban, an Israeli-American, has pointed out exactly what The Prez has done for Israel, and that, as he puts it, “his support for Israel’s security and well-being has been rock solid”.

But she can’t stop, repeating the whopper “nearly half of US citizens are dependent on state hand-outs” (see above) before going completely gaga and calling Barack Obama a “far-left, anti-west, Black Power fellow-traveller”. And it’s all the fault of that rotten MSM. It is? No, it isn’t. Mel needs to go for an extended lie down in a darkened room. Mitt is losing because he and his campaign are totally inept.

And in a popularity contest, more voters like Obama. Get over it, Mel.
