Guido Fawked – Gove Hypocrisy

School meals are back in the news this morning after a damning Channel 4 Dispatches yesterday evening, which homed in on falling standards due to cuts, the propensity of fast food outlets to open within a short distance of school gates, and most disturbingly the tens of thousands of pounds paid to the constituency association of Michael “Oiky” Gove by those behind Domino’s Pizza in the UK.

Indeed, the fast food chain identified as going for openings near schools was Domino’s, whose persistence in pushing their product is well known to anyone within a mile or so of their Crewe outlet (on the traffic light crossing of Nantwich Road and Mill Street), whose waste paper pile is routinely enhanced by yet another special offer of something with dubious nutritional value.

So who is taking a stand against the lowering of school meal quality? Well, it does seem to depend on the political allegiance of the target. Back in June, when a little girl called Martha Payne, who writes a blog about her school meal experiences called Neverseconds, was briefly censored from taking photos of the offers at her school, lots of folks joined in supporting her.

Those supporters included the perpetually thirsty Paul Staines at the Guido Fawkes blog, who gave encouragement to Martha on Twitter and noted her success against the over-zealous folks at Argyll and Bute Council in a subsequent post. But, strangely, The Great Guido has been silent on the Dispatches revelations, as have his gofers. Why should that be?

Ah well. Argyll and Bute Council is, for the Fawkes blog, fair game. Attacking councils is de rigueur for Staines and his pals in the wider Conservative Movement, such as the so-called Taxpayers’ Alliance, and Argyll and Bute is ruled over by a coalition of Independents and the SNP, so he need have no reservations in going after them. “Oiky” Gove is another matter.

The Education Secretary is not only a fellow Conservative, but his actions meet with the approval of that wider Conservative Movement, as they are held to meet the criteria of bashing unions, demonising teachers and teaching methods, and proving true all those pundits who assert that education has been hijacked by rotten lefties and turned into a kind of Orwellian social engineering.

So while anyone getting a contribution to their election expenses from a Trade Union gets it in the neck from the Fawkes blog – the latest being Chuka Umunna – Gove can trouser as much as he likes from the men from Domino’s Pizza and get a free pass. Unscrupulous politicians filling impressionable children full of junk is only bad if they’re part of the wrong organisation or party.

After all, he’s Number 1, you know. Another fine mess, once again.
