Sinking Ship Ejects Rat

Things are not going at all well at CNN, the original US cable channel. As I observed recently, the level of desperation is such that when Larry King bows out early next year, his slot will be taken up by Piers “Morgan” Moron, described in today’s Guardian TV guide as “an obnoxious toady with a misplaced sense of entitlement”.

But the thoughtful understatement of the Guardian pales into insignificance when compared to the car crash that ended the CNN career of Rick Sanchez yesterday. Sanchez, until yesterday the host of Rick’s List, went on Pete Dominick’s radio show on Thursday and called Daily Show host Jon Stewart a “bigot”. Just to dig himself in a little deeper, he then asserted that CNN and other networks were run by Jews.

Meanwhile, Sanchez had been sounding off at MSNBC, suggesting that hosts Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were cheerleading for the White House: “MSNBC is to Barack Obama what Fox was to Bush and Cheney” he asserted. Olbermann later correctly predicted, via Twitter, that Sanchez would be finished at CNN.

And so it came to pass: Sanchez did not appear on his own show yesterday, and CNN later stated tersely: “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well”.

Can things get worse at CNN? With the advent of The Percy Moron Show, they certainly can.
