Washout? What Washout?

The headlines say it all: “Bank Holiday Washout”. I am momentarily concerned, so stroll over to the window of my room at the Borges Chiado. Opening it, the sunlight streams in, there is a pleasant breeze, and the racket of last night’s celebrations has been replaced by Sunday morning quiet, broken only by the occasional metal on metal sound of a tram entering the Largo do Chiado outside.

This morning, the only difficulty has been negotiating a very full breakfast room down on the first floor, and although the unsettled weather has apparently got as far south and inland as Madrid, it’s not arrived in Lisbon. That will do me just fine. Today will bring time to relax, along with a trip west along the coast.

Deciding how to enjoy your time in this city can be a difficult job. But someone’s got to do it.
