I imagine they view the national side as many of the clubs now do, a massive hindrance. That may or may not be coincidental.<br /><br />Generally the performance of the national side since 1990 (their last World Cup semi final appearance, PL started 1992) is largely inversely proportional to the profile/success of the Premier League. Again, that may or may not be coincidental. <br /><br />Worth noting the domestic leagues of France, Germany, Italy and Spain don't have quite the global appeal of the PL and they've all won a World Cup in that time so an insanely rich domestic league and a good national team are by no means linked to each other.<br /><br /> Simonnoreply@blogger.com
