I had to do what I felt was right for the safety of my family. <br /><br />You can quote all the stats you like, but you can't escape the reality that the rate that farmers and other civilians are being slaughtered is alarming. The stats that 47 or 153 farmers are killed per annum is not relevant, they are not numbers - but they were people with families that are now suffering. Children without fathers, and wives without husbands. 1 farm murder is unacceptable, never mind figures in the hundreds. The reality is that in many cases the attackers rarely steal anything of significant value, usually the victim being shot execution style for little more than a mobile phone.<br /><br />Consider that the crime stats do not separate farm attacks from other murders, also many murders are on smallholdings that are not considered farms. When you live in SA, you feel that sooner or later you will become part of the horrific statistics.
